Perkins State Bank has six branch locations to serve the banking needs of levy county and surrounding areas. Perkins State Bank is a proud example of how a dream, prevailing forward with hard work and determination, can become an unobstructed reality. Chartered by the State of Florida on August 21, 1913, Perkins State Bank has withstood the test of time. Even through the Great Depression when every bank seemed to result in financial failure, Perkins State Bank stood strong. Florida native, Roy P. Perkins, was a self-made business college graduate who held various banking jobs in Florida. One day, he shared his vision of a community-based business with a traveling bible salesman. He gave the salesman a self-addressed postcard, in hopes that the salesman would find him the perfect place to start a business. Six months later, Perkins received back the tattered postcard that read: “Archer, with its two railroads, crate mill, foundry and 1600 voting people, would be a good place to start a bank.” And, it was. With $15,000 in capital, a little help from friend E.E. Skipper, the Bank of Archer was chartered. It grew steadily. In the early 1930s, citizens of Williston sought Mr. Perkins help. After two bank failed, Williston needed a strong bank to serve its community. In May 1932, the Bank of Archer moved (at midnight in a Model T Ford) to Williston and was renamed “The Perkins State Bank.”
