Provided by YPmobileNew Horizon's website claims to offer a "character-building program designed to foster and strengthen... leadership skills for the 21st century," and to have a highly qualified staff with an average of 16 students per class.
Character is lacking as some grades have 6 or 7 students. 25% of the students from first grade are not returning for second grade, and to my knowledge, none of the students have moved.
The school has no library, no cafeteria, no security, and no diversity. There are monthly library trips; parents volunteer to drive children in their personal vehicles and the children have one story read to them by the librarian and then get books to take out: one book per year of age. The school has no cafeteria; students eat lunch at their desk and the school has fast food delivered several times per week for an additional fee, including Chick Fil A, Firehouse Subs and Mexican, probably not the best health choice for American schoolchildren. There is no security; rather, there is a sign on the door instructing visitors to knock loudly if no one comes to the door when you ring the bell. Sometimes the door is unlocked, sometimes not. There is a fence alongside the school where some children enter in the morning: unlocked and completely unmonitored. National Center for Education Statistics has documented publicly that there have been ZERO African American students enrolled since at least 2004. So much for having a student population representative of the community.
New Horizons claims that they do not accommodate students with special needs. However, the school's association is with the Learning Disabilities Association of America and the school supposedly accommodates students with mild learning differences - per the LDA.
At first glance, New Horizons seems like a great choice: small class size, welcoming staff, and a no bullying policy. However, look more closely. The staff is welcoming and warm in direct proportion to how unwelcoming and pompous the parents are. There is a no bullying policy but God forbid your child is non-Christian, non-white, or unique in any way.....
