A part of the City of Wilson, Wilson Fire/Rescue Services operates more than five fire stations and serves over 50,000 individuals. Established in 1880, the department protects communities and properties in residential areas. It also provides emergency medical services. Wilson Fire/Rescue Services maintains a technical level hazardous materials response team. The department offers public education and fire prevention inspection programs in commercial, industrial and municipal airport occupancies. It uses infrared thermal imaging devices, trailers and maintains nearly 15 emergency response apparatuses. Wilson Fire/Rescue Services operates through a staff of approximately 90 firefighters. The department has received the Accredited Agency from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
