Little River is nestled between the Cypress Creek and the Blanco River, and adjoins the Blue Hole Regional Park. Our curriculum comes to life as children learn about the plants, animals and ecosystems on the nature trail outside our door. Our goal at Little River is to open doors that will inspire joy, self-esteem, and a love of learning.Children learn best when there is a balance between playful creative discovery and more focused academic efforts. We achieve that balance by using fun, hands-on materials, vocabulary enhancing games and lessons, art, music, dance, free exploratory play, as well as a smattering of good old-fashioned practice. At Little River, we are committed to high standards, including educational methods based on peer-reviewed research on learning and cognition, a curriculum rich in traditional folk arts such as square dancing and guitar sing-a-longs, and activity centers that change weekly.PARENT REVIEWS:Marie is an amazing, creative teacher. She focuses on each student as an individual and selects activities that are appropriate and relevant to the child's stage in development. Our son attended Little River Preschool for 2 years and absolutely LOVED it. He was guided through a wide variety of activities and lessons that included music, art, science, basic reading and math. He especially loved the nature hikes which incorporated lots of movement and lessons about our natural environment here in Wimberley. As parents, we loved the small class and the school's focus on the whole child. Marie works really hard to create an inspiring work and play space. -Amy CrowelWe chose to send our son to Little River Preschool because of the small class size and Marie's extensive experience, and we have not been disappointed. The progress that our son has made this year is remarkable. I love the fact that the children are exposed to music, art, and nature in addition to academic subjects. -Toni JinkinsWinning environment, caring teacher/proprietor - I took a tour of the preschool and was favorably impressed. The schoolroom had activitiy centers full of educational toys and such, with little plastic to be seen. Everything was made of natural materials cotton fabrics, wooden toys and puzzles, antique furniture. The proprietor is obviously an experienced teacher, with a warm, caring presence and an enthusiasm for young children. I have four preschool age grandchildren, and would love to be able to send them there, but I live too far away. -Rae Stabosz
