In operation since 1907 the farm began as an apple orchard, with a dairy business later added in the 1940's. Our milking parlour is the only remaining glass-tubed milking machine in Virginia. Today the farm focuses on a fall farm market, educational tours, demonstration farming, birthday parties, specialty events, and even a vacation rental home. The Herds Inn is a rustic 2-bedroom log cabin constructed from two restored 1800 s tobacco barns combined with hand hewn logs. Cypress wood was extracted from old vinegar vats used at National Fruit's apple processing plant and recycled to make the hardwood floors. Hedgebrook Farm is a working family dairy farm, with over 50 Jersey cows making up the friendly herd. Embrace the opportunity to interact with many of our farm animals, take a strawride, walk The First Corn Maze in Frederick County, climb the straw rock, or try out our straw maze. The farm is home to donkeys, llamas, horses, peacocks, chickens, ducks, great danes, a miniature donkey, cats and more. And don't forget to look for Cody, our friendly Water Buffalo. Seasonally we offer pumpkins, apples, honey, peanuts and many other local harvest items.
