In 1979, Dane Harman was determined to reduce his family’s high electric bills. An experienced welder with an eye for architecture, Dane designed and built a wood stove to heat his home. It worked so well, neighbors asked him to build one for them, too. Dane agreed, and was soon overwhelmed with orders. He had outgrown his garage and couldn’t keep up with production. This flux in demand drove him to form the Harman Stove Company. Dane’s inspiration was based around creating superior stoves. Stoves that were, in his words, "Built to a Standard, Not a Price". More than three decades later, this tagline remains a guiding principle of every product emblazoned with the Harman name. Harman is based in Halifax, Pennsylvania. The company also holds several patents and award-winning technologies. Harman was acquired by Hearth & Home Technologies, Inc. (HHT) in 2007. HHT is the largest producer and manufacturer of fireplaces and hearth products in the world.
