Provided by YP.comWe have eaten at several Tapas restaurants when on vacation or visiting larger cities, so I had great hope for a Tapas restaurant in Winston Salem. The best word I can use to describe this restaurant is "pretentious." It is not the setting as we had eaten at past restaurants in this location and not felt this way. It is the service and the menu.
It started when we ordered a cheese plate ...the waitress was very condescending in telling us that cheese was the last course -- their chef is French (no, we did not tell her that Tapas originated in Spain). Not wanting to insult the chef, we did not order it. We also saw notes on their menu indicating that their food was a "family" and asked that we not separate them. While our children enjoy many cuisines (Sushi is a favorite), there are some flavors our 16 year old daughter has tried and does not enjoy. Without the ability to restrict certain sauces or flavors, we immediately planned where we would take her for food when we left.
Our plan had been to order a few plates, eat them, and then order as we went along (like most Tapas restaurants). After our initial order, the menus were removed by the hostess. So much for Tapas!
And finally, my husband's barometer of service...we were one of four tables with two waiters and a hostess, yet our drinks were consistently empty.
I think our frustration is simply that we were expecting a Tapas restaurant, but this is a restaurant that serves a variety of appetizers with wraps and sandwiches. The food was good (particularly the bacon wrapped dates and the soup we had), but the experience is enough to keep us from returning -- I would suggest walking across the street to Jeffery Adams.
