Detroit Public Television, formerly known as WTVS Channel 56, is a noncommercial, educational television station that has been in operation since 1955. The television station is licensed to the Detroit Educational Television Foundation. As a nonprofit organization, Detroit Public Television is also known as DPTV and operates Digital 43.1 and 43.2. In addition, the company operates manages 90.9 WRCJ-FM, which is a public radio station licensed to Detroit Public Schools. Detroit Public Television employs a staff of more than 80 people. The television station is watched by over1 million people in southeastern Michigan weekly. Detroit Public Television broadcasts programs, such as Absolutely Irish!, The Adirondacks and Adventure Lodges.
