Journalism jobs

I worked as journalist since 1994, and did investigative reporting for the Point Newspaper in The Gambia, thus doubling the sales with my two columns. In 2006, I studied journalism and got a diploma. Since then I improved in my work. I helped the police in a diverse way, especially when I discovered armed rubbers and child slaves brought in from Ghana.

I worked as an investigative journalist and a columnist running two columns; the Christian Panorama and Society and Development columns. I was apprehended by police for taking their photos, when they brought in some nine journalists for trial on seditious charges. The police were all armed and they did not want me to publish the article. I was in the cells for three days and was released. I became a hero and started reporting for the Vatican Radio. I became a popular journalist. It opened a way into my journalistic life.

Situation in that country, The Gambia is always volatile for journalists. It was quite difficult for journalists there since they were either sent to jail or remanded or disappear them for no reason. It was nice working there because one could use every skill to get the news and use pen names to publish as long as the story is authenticated by strong sources. It was good for an investigative journalist like me. My camera was seized and never returned with my numerous publishable photos.
