Reliance Restaurant
1413 W Market St, York, PA 17404
The Reliance Cafe is York's oldest food establishment. The building was established in the early years of 1900 and was adjoined to the West York Fire Company. The restaurant was known as Fishel's restaurant & cigar store. In 1937, it was named Reliance Cafe. In the late 1930s until the 1960s, it was owned and operated by the Klinendist family. Between the early 1960s until 1967, the restaurant was owned by Bill Hershey. From 1967 until 1971, the Reliance was owned by Herman Klingenmaier and Bud Markle. From 1971 until today, the Sgagias family owns and operates this historic restaurant.
The Reliance was the first restaurant in York to install an ice maker machine in the late 1940s and a TV set in the 1950s. For more than 100 years, several generations of people have been dining at the Reliance, enjoying quality home food made from scratch, as well as family oriented prices and friendly service.
