On August 11 and 12, Sherman maintenance responded to a service request placed for water in the basement of an older farmhouse where a furnace was also not working properly. The furnace was replaced when they also found several frozen pipes and rotting plumbing lines starting from the bathroom. Lines run down from the bathroom next to the living room, and down into the basement next to the furnace.
Another contractor with Allison’s Plumbing and Heating was called into the job. In replacing old plumbing, a hole was cut into the ceiling in the living room.
Sherman’s maintenance crew advised me at the time to place another service request in order to have the hole patched. At the time, I said okay and went along with it. The first service call I placed with Sherman leasing office was the next morning. When I did not get any kind of response from this call, I continued to call and follow up on this matter over the next 2-3 weeks. After a full month went by with the hole left behind, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau on Sunday 9/12.
By Wednesday of the following week I was in direct contact with a maintenance crew member. He promised to show up on Wednesday of the following week, but showed up on Thursday in order to assess the work. I felt they should have known the situation making this particular visit either unnecessary or starting the actual work. The work was eventually finished on Monday the 27th and Wednesday the 29th.
When it came to the missed appointments and unresponsive leasing center employees, I would have rather dealt with Verizon or Comcast.
For future residents with Sherman I have one piece of advice: don’t expect much. Sherman’s leasing office seems to be playing a role of a simple order taker, lacking initiative and follow up. I also felt the work should have been handled to completion in August when replacing the old plumbing.

We had inclement weather (snow, freezing rain, & ice) on Sunday, February 4. By Monday afternoon, the driveway and parking areas of the Dover apartment complex still had not been cared for. I called and sent in a maintenance request on Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, February 6, nearly 48 hours later, trucks were sent out to plow our parking area. On Wednesday, February 7, we again had snow, freezing rain, and ice. Once again, nothing was done to care for the property. I again had to submit a maintenance request asking for someone to come shovel and salt. The driveway conditions were so poor on both occasions that it took me multiple attempts to get my car up the hill of the driveway to the parking area when I returned home.

As well, I provided 60 days notice (more than the required 30 days) of my intent to vacate. The final month of my residency included multiple required showings to potential new tenants. I tried to object because I work from home, but I was told that I was required to allow entry with 24 hours notice.

When I moved out, I asked for a walk through inspection. Despite the 24 hour availability of Sherman staff to show my apartment to new tenants, they told me that they were not available to complete a walk through with several days advance notice on my part. They also refused to mail me a copy of the inspection report despite multiple requests. They waited until Day 30 to return my security deposit.

Overall, Sherman is not interested in providing good customer service.

Horrible money hungry company who will not return your security deposit even if you leave the property in better shape than when you got it. I spent over 1k on improvements and after I moved out they charged me 500.00 for moving 2 hay bales. Unethical and horrible. They won't return calls and good luck getting maintenance to fix anything without them trying to charge you for things THEY should be fixing. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!! It was the worst experience I have ever had renting.
