Deciding to begin therapy can be an exciting and/or anxiety provoking experience. We usually decide to start therapy because something does not seem to be the way we want it to be. We might be confused, frustrated, angry, hurt or fearful. It might have to do with us, individually, or with a relationship, our family or a family member. I work at creating a therapeutic environment where people can feel safe. Safety is created by being respectful, non-judgmental and by holding healthy boundaries. Confidentiality also needs to be held. Each person's story is unique and every individual has their own creative way of working towards their goals. Our individuality has its own strengths and its own vulnerabilities. Therapy needs to work towards the full development of each person. In therapy we might work to achieve freedom from outmoded patterns of acting and reacting. Therapy can be a place to feel safe enough to begin to understand your reactions and work with their psychological and emotional impact. It is a place to look at who you are and the relationships you are in.
