The Muskingum County Jail houses prisoners from Muskingum County, as well as inmates from surrounding counties whose jails have met their limit. The jail s average daily population is more than 160 inmates. Its prisoners include individuals charged with various types of criminal offenses and felonies. The Muskingum County Jail houses prisoners who await trial and sentencing, transfer to a state institution, and probation and parole revocations, as well as fugitives who await return to other states. It administers various programs and activities, including bible study, anger management, GED education, and alcohol, drug and religious counseling. The jail also offers laundry, library, commissary, medical and psychological services for prisoners. It is a part of the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office, which also operates patrol, communications and court services divisions. The Muskingum County Jail is located in Zanesville, Ohio.
