They do not have the animals best interest at heart. Or even try to get them to a good home. They turned us away and didn't even check reference or even offer us to come look at other dogs available. They told us to look elsewhere. What? Again.. they didn't even meet us or anything? Our entire family have rescued and owned furbabies forever. They are apart of our family. And the babies live in the country life! Spoiled beyond spoiled. We met the criteria and then some. It's a shame. Not only did a pup miss out on a great home. Possibly another did as well. Because had we been give the opportunity to at least apply for another rescue dog. He.. she could had had a forever home. And what's sad. Is some of thier dogs are still sitting there waiting for a home. And have been. Horrible place!! The poor animals. And don't get me going on how long it took them to respond. Good news is. We found another wonderful dog at a different adoption place. No problems and she is very happy. As are we.

But something is very off and Odd about this place. Proceed with caution

These people are terrible! After filling out the crazy application and going through their background check we were told we could adopt a puppy. I was going to get him on a Saturday but because we had a family issue I couldn’t get him that day. I called and said I would be there first thing Monday morning and was told that was ok. Sunday morning I get an email from Joy saying it seems like I’m too busy and the puppy will not be joining our family! (She knows I am a teacher and off for another month and a half!) I spent 3 days calling and emailing and they don’t even have the decency to talk to me.

Extremely unprofessional and unwilling to communicate. We adopted a dog from them with the understanding that there was no known health issues. The dog had two fairly serious health problems that our own vet discovered within 10 minutes of examination. It took multiple phone calls on our end to the rescue before speaking with "Joy" herself. She told us that no one in their organization had ever noticed health issues with the dog. Come to find out the foster mother had noticed the issues with the dogs legs/hips and never said anything to us. She also did not disclose additional info about the dog to us. That was well over a week ago. We still have not had anyone in the rescue return our calls. I believe first and foremost they failed the poor dog. I also believe they lie and they think they will get away with it. Find a more reputable rescue to adopt from.

As with several other reviews I too was rejected from adopting. They did NOT check on any references I provided. They finally got in touch to tell me the pup was adopted by someone else. Hmm..he is still on their site as adoptable. I personally know a couple who went through the exact same experience. This rescue professes to Love these little souls and yet passes up perfectly wonderful, loving homes. For what reason? I’m bewildered and disgusted.

This is anything but Joyful......we are a living family wanting to adopt a dog ....... denied.......I did not give the detailed death of previous pets........really.....you called my vet!
This is not a rescue......it is a farce.....all these dogs and you deny so many willing people.

I met my dog in EVL during fall fest and within a week I was able to bring him home. The were wonderful to deal with and you could tell that they really care about the animals. He was in great health with recent dental work. They were so genuinely thrilled that he finally got a home. We couldn't be any happier with our little boy. They took such great care of him there. We even found out the one of the volunteers who was very found of him would bring him home on the weekends.

I see a lot of reviews about people being salty about being denyed. When I applied for him I had put that I had been living in a double with my mom that had a small yard. I also put I work full time but my mom does stay home most days since she's retired and we got approved. They pick who they pick for a reason. My aunt was too denyed for one dog then was approved for another one. They seem to have their own way of figuring out who would work with who. They want to make sure the fit is right and there is nothing wrong with that. They want them to have a forever home and if they feel that it's not the right fit then they are allowed to deny that person.

They are wonderful and caring! I will only ever adopt from them.

If you've read all the other n...

If you've read all the other negative reviews you've read this one. The response from the Board of Directors must come directly from the script, they have no clue how to treat people. The volunteers are wonderful people but don't know why they put up with this joke of an organization. Joyful Rescues must be in it for the money, they don't seem to care about the animals or the people that they mistreat
If possible I'd give them 0 stars

I've only found this review si...

I've only found this review site after my poor wife has made a heartfelt application to Joyful rescues.

I have a loving family of 5, own our home with more than half an acre of land and a wonderful relationship with our vet. We've raised two dogs in our 14 year marriage and have an extremely stable life.

We were denied without explanation.

I believe there is discrimination that is beyond any application process. There are hundreds of animals listed on this site living in a kennel or worse at Joyful rescues.

Any one who has had a application rejected by joyful rescues-thank your lucky stars. I was approved and ended up with a very ill dog. It was not only very sick but also has a injured acl. After having the dog only 2 days he turned up lame. He was so ill from not eating that he almost died. I could have purchased a whole litter of dogs from a breeder for what it cost me at the vet to save him. They do not monitor the dogs at all-they just roam free and survive if they can, The best part of this was that I feel like I actually did save the dog-he probably would have never survived at that rescue, They deserve 0 stars

rude and uncaring

IF You are looking for someone who is rude
this would be the place to call. Tried to explain some info to the owner and she just wouldnt listen. Just lost my dog and was looking for another..quote..I dont care about your dog.I just want the paper work about the shots. Hope you treat the dogs you rescued better than the people trying to adopt them. Giving shelters a bad name...shame on you!

Save yourself time and money- don't support rude hateful people- just think, if they treat people so rudely (and hey, we can write reviews and talk about it!) just think how they treat animals they see as not meeting their "standard".

Here is a copy of my complaint I filed with the BBB for the hurtful, abusive remarks about a pet that we had since she was a baby and died in a tragic accident at the age of 10.

The following is the response I recieved from this organization after I filled out their application. I am well aware that they can deny anyone. That is their policy and the risk I took, I can accept that. What I didn't agree to was an abusive response including an insult about a tragic accident involving one of our first pets (who was 10 years old at the time). If this is how they treat people, I can only imagine how they treat animals:

"Good at vet, even preventative care for the cat. Layla had a "car accident", love this...she must have been drinking and testing - bad girl! She was last seen 1/2010. They are gone 8 hours a day (thinking about Duke, but he may have a home) and the new dog will be able to run the property with the safety of the invisible fence - like Layla did? Oh, I think they hit the adopted from us before line by accident, I find nothing. "

*** Side note, I did hit a button by accident about adopting before, but I was never asked to clarify. Never was asked to clarify the accident, nor how it is that we have somehow managed to keep two dogs and a cat safe for many years. We have never had a neighbor complain about their care, and have a great record for care at the vet. This organization, on the other hand, has many complaints about customer service online, so this not an isolated incident.

Am I angry? Yes. This response was uncalled for.

More than happy to also post my reply:

"No need to be nasty about it. I see now why you have so many negative reviews online. Now it will be one more. Layla was a loved animal who had an unfortunate accident that is awfully painful for my family. For you to make light of it shows your true character. Thanks for saving me the money with you. If you think you can treat people this way, you are undoubtably abusive to your animals, too. Im glad you sent such a rude and hateful note me, I'd hate to have my money go towards supporting your abusive operation. Now I can post with confidence that those reviews are spot on- I've had my own first hand experience with you. Sorry that I wasted MY time with you. Also sorry for those animals having to spend time with such a hateful person. I can't imagine they enJOY it so much. They are probably more than happy to be adopted- "get me the heck away from that woman". Lady, you give b****s a bad name."

Salt in a wound -
After losing our wonderful dog to cancer, we decided to adopt. We have always felt that we have a lot to offer a dog - a large, fenced- yard, a loving family, and the recommendations of our vet. We filled out an application only to be abruptly rejected right away without offering any explanation or checking any references. I asked for more information, but my emails were unanswered. A month later, I see that the dog we were interested in is still at the shelter. Thankfully, we were able to adopt a sweet, wonderful dog from one of the many reputable agencies out there. If you are looking to adopt or sponsor, I would recommend one of the many professionally-run agencies out there and take this one off of the list.

We have had 5 dogs in a 40 years period. All but one, who was hit by a car, lived until their senior years.

After appling for a dog from Joyous Rescue, we received an email asking us to call our Vet to give permission to release information. Within an two hours of the first email, we were denied with no explanation. There's no way they contacted our Vet. Because, if they did they would had seen all of our dogs were well taken care of.

After that, the only thing I can think is this place is a scam. All they are looking for are people to donate and sponsor their animals.

My husband and I recently tried to adopt from this agency. We made the very long trip to visit the site and found a dog that would be perfect for our home and our life style. However, even though we have a good home, good jobs, a fenced yard, and excellent references, (not to mention a lot of love for an animal) we were rejected. For the life of us we can not figure out WHY we were denied and calling them was only more upsetting as they said "they have the right to not tell us why". It was a very heartbreaking experience.

I wish anyone who wishes to adopt from this place the best of luck, it is very concerning that they rejected us as we felt we would be a great fit for at least one of their 117 dogs on site. Additionally, the staff is extremely rude both in person and on the phone.

Has anyone dealt with Joyful Rescue in Cuba, NY? A friend and prior excellent dog owner, has had there application denied, no explantion and no apparent good reason to be denied... Dogs in shelters need good homes and they are denying this dog a wonderful life. This is just so wrong.

I recently met Joyful Rescues'...

I recently met Joyful Rescues' volunteers and dogs at the Webster Petsmart. Not only were they thorough in explaining the adoption process, they made it very clear that applications could be rejected. That's why it's call an "application." Either you are approved or denied, and nowhere on the form does it indicate that they will disclose reasons for denial.

It's important to use your critical thinking skills before offering opinions. If I'm rejected, fine. That's life. Move on.

I happened to go to Petsmart while Joyful Rescues was having an adoption fair. We fell in love with a Shepherd Husky Mix and brought him home the following week. Right away we noticed increased thirst, urination and vomiting. After multiple vet visits, our boy was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease thought to be caused by renal dysplasia. I emailed the owner to alert her of the diagnosis and explained that we could bring our dog back and get our money back. That wasn't our intention. I respectfully explained that our dog was not coming back there as nobody noticed his symptoms and she replied "if you want to hate somebody, hate God.". We currently are spending hundreds of dollars each month on meds, food and fluids to keep our boy as healthy as possible. My experience of having a dog is ruined. I will never return to Joyful Rescues.

As several other reviews stated, this outfit gives widely varied service to people hoping to adopt. Apparently the woman running things has a god complex, and withholds permission to adopt for whatever whim is running her day. My sin was the "tone" of my inquiring email, so that dog did NOT get to go home with me to a rewarding life. Seems to me she punished the dog.

Joye and Katie and Mimi and many other volunteers from this group work tirelessly to give better lives to dogs and cats who are in dire situations through no fault of their own. They have given their lives to this cause. Because there is always so much to be done, including bringing the animals to our area, caring for their endless needs, coordinating events, fund raising, dealing with really sick and really scared animals, and then working on approvals and all kinds of people, including needy ones, they can't be everything to everyone. And folks, the animals have got to come first. These are animals that are rescued out of some horrible situations. Although it is fabulous to have a fully house trained dog that knows all the parlor tricks and won't ever do a thing wrong, you may just have to be willing to be the kind of owner who can handle teaching and guiding them yourself. For the reviewers who are so upset because they didn't get approved or the attention they thought they deserved, I can assure you that you couldn't handle an hour in these ladies shoes. I applaud them for their selflessness. And shame on anyone who says this is about money or hoarding. You are beyond ridiculous and they were right not to adopt to you. It would only mean the dogs would be in another cruddy situation when they didn't act according to your terms. Joye, Katie, Mimi and everyone else, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are amazing people and a true inspiration to me.
