We are greatly appreciative of the staff of Mountain View Animal Emergency. Our elderly cat developed paralysis of his hind legs and raspy heavy breathing in the middle of the night. They told us to bring him in as soon as possible...3:30 in the morning. Although the prognosis was grim, Dr. Amanda Smith and her staff exuded compassionate and competence. Thank you for making such a sorrowful situation more bearable. You are the best!!! 5 stars aren't enough.

NEVER TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE. They killed my dog. And I have other people that I've talked too and said they killed there animals too. They wouldn't allow us to be with him. There was a horrible smell coming from my puppy that was not there before we walked in. They charged us 350 dollars to give him something to kill him not even 20 minutes after we left. And it smells like embalming fluid. Opey had parvo. And most charge 70-90 dollars to treat it. They were charging 800!! They are money greedy ignorant discusting sick people!! Animal killers!

Wonderful people, wonderful care. They were there when we needed them the most and made our situation as smooth as it possibly could be.

THEY KNEW HE WOULD DIE

I rushed my GSD in because his stomach was swollen after eating dinner also he was throwing up but no food just foamy stuff. This was on a Sunday evening. They took an x-ray and said he has bloat! I no nothing about what bloat was. I said what do we do, I was told they could keep him and give him fluids but because he was aggressive that maybe I should take him home and keep an eye on him. They gave him pain meds and something for throwing up. Well a few hours later he looked really bad I put him in the car and was rushing him back when he died. I was an hour away. I took him to my regular vet on Monday morning which is in Baltimore he told me they should have pumped his stomach and then operated and untwisted his stomach. Without treatment the dog dies. They should have explained to me what bloat was and how to treat it but they did NOT!! So they knew sending him home he would die!!

Very cold and uncaring staff. Very overpriced

I took my daughters dog in with her upper and lower eyelid torn. I was told it would cost between $750 - $975 and this was to sedate her and throw in a couple stitches. But the problem was they wouldn't even TOUCH her with out full payment!!! They refused payments and didn't even care what shape she was in! That is neglect and abuse also! NEVER NEVER will I EVER take an animal back there!! They could care less for the animal...They only want to suck you dry.

Response to Jeanine B.

I actually was in the waiting room for the experience written about here and was disgusted by the behavior of the client not the hospital. She turned and pointed to myself and others in the waiting room and stated "I am not sitting here waiting like these people"! Well I was sitting there waiting to speak with a vet (all of which are AMAZING) for a rescue dog I had met less than 24 hours previously. Importantly, there were serious emergency cases being dealt with when they arrived and I respect that those are the priority. I have not had a bad experience with Mountainview Animal Hospital in my many visits. By the way, they saved my rescue puppy who was fighting for his life and he has went home to his new forever family. Dr. Shawn Wilson and his staff are amazing and Sylvia (the receptionist referred to in Jeanine B's review) was very professional in this difficult situation. Each of the people waiting with me were just as disgusted with the behavior of the pet parent and NOT the hospital staff. If your animal is sick and needs medication you wait your turn they are not a pharmacy they are an EMERGENCY ANIMAL HOSPITAL dealing with very sick animals and urgent time sensitive priorities. People were losing their pets, fearing the loss of their pets and dealing with varying emotions. I am sorry you feel your experience did not meet your standards but frankly your social graces are questionable, at best. Other individuals with far more serious concerns were prioritized in front of you. How dare they...since it appears the world should be set to revolve around your needs!!! Sorry, but I had to respond to this review. I normally do not but as I was part of the audience subjected to the scenario I felt it was important that both sides of the story were represented.

Don't go there!!!

It was late on a Friday. After 2 weeks of treating my cat for a UTI that didn't go away, my vet sent us to Mt. View for a special antibiotic. When we got there we were told we would have to wait. I asked how long she thought? She shrugged her shoulders. I asked a customer who was sitting in the waiting room how long she has been waiting.... She said, "2 hours". I told the receptionist we would come back to pick up the prescription. When we called to see if it was ready, the doctor told us he would not serve us because we caused a scene and attacked several of his staff members. There was only 1 receptionist and 3 customers in the waiting room. Meanwhile... since we did not have the prescription in our hand my cat was left untreated for the entire weekend. The Doctor said we should have been nicer since he was doing us a favor.

Outstanding!

I have taken 2 of my dogs to Mountain View. The first time was when my little Bella got into a bottle of baby asprin. I was immediately met at the door by the staff and Bella was rushed back into an exam room and within minutes Dr. Wilson took her back to start treatment, yes the care can be expensive but this is what we as pet owners have to take on when we have dogs, cats or any type of animal when an emergency comes up. The second time I had to go to Mountain View was when my Buddy was having seziures and they again were there waiting at the door when I arrived. Unfortuntely I had to make the decision to put him down on Thanksgiving but I can not say enough about the caring, supportive staff at the hospital. They are a "God Send" in my eyes and I am so Thankful that they are there when I or my dogs may ever need them.

AWESOME EXPERIENCE

It was 3 a.m. when I decided my 12 week old puppy "Lilly" needed care for a bad cough. I called Mountain View Animal Emergency and immediately the phone was answered by one of the staff members. I told her my concerns, and she said come on in. Upon arriving I was met by the staff and my Lilly was seen right away. Dr Shawn Wilson was EXCEPTIONAL. An assessment was done and it was determined she had Kennel Cough. She was given medications and a treatment plan to follow. I would Highly recommend Dr Wilson and his staff, hands Down!!!!! In addition the bill was very reasonable. I wish my doctors showed this kind of care and compassion.

There is no better place to take your pet in this area!

Since moving to the area, vet. care has been a huge concern of mine, especially emergency; after hours (having older dogs). I have had to bring my animals here on several occasions. Not ONCE have I been disappointed in any way. The care is top notch and up to date. From the administrative support staff, vet. tech, veterinarians, there is nothing but high praise for this facility. I wish they had regular hours and a regular clientele. They would certainly be my top pick and I would not have that "second guessing" feeling I often have when having to rely on a veterinarians opinion/diagnosis. Thank you for being there for your high quality standards, incredible knowledge, and caring and compassionate demeanor!

Wonderful Service, Bad Wrap for Expecting Payment.

I'm VERY passionate about my pets and would choose Mountain View over any practice in the area. They're top of the line, but everytime I've been there they are being hassled about the prices! It's really infuriating as someone who sees how rational and compassionate they really are to see someone berate and abuse them. Your bill reflects the equipment and medicine used, the time that the docs and employees take out of their evenings and/or weekends to be there for you, and the high quality of care that they're capable of providing as soon as you need it when your vet can't. Basing your experience on the fact that you can't pay is both irrational and idiotic. Claiming they took your dog is even worse, and probably a slanderous statement which IS punishable FYI. I'm sure you signed something giving them custody of your dog because they did this for a friend. Most other places would've given you three options: treat, euthanize, or take it home. Count your blessings where you should.

The best!

My Susie became very ill with pancreatitis Memorial Day weekend and of course, our regular vet wasn't available. Dr. Wilson and his amazing staff took great care of her. Without them she would have died before our regular vet opened Tuesday morning. I can't give them enough praise. I would recommend them to anyone. Indeed, if they provided regular vet services I would drive the 80 miles round trip to have them care for Susie.

Wonderful service

Kind and caring doctors, friendly staff. I was very pleased with the treatment my dog Max got at their office. I wish they were open days too.Having a pet is a privledge, not a right, if you can not afford to care for a pet you should NOT have one, plan ahead. I hope Butch's puppy found a proper home with people who were responsible enough to take good care of him. There IS a vaccine to prevent parvo, why didn't the puppy have it? Let me guess, it was too expensive. I hope Butch takes better care of his kids.

A Great Vet

Wonderful doctors saved my kitty's life after she was hit by a car. Did it cost money? Of course it did. Xrays, oxygen, and surgery are expensive, but I am glad they are here in Hagerstown to take care of pets who are hurt.

very poor

I also agree that this place is not the best place to take your pet.i recently had our 12wk old pup there which was found to have parvo.I wish they would take some things in to consideration, some people just don't have $1255 to dish out on there dog in a matter of seconds. With the economy the way it is,and jobs on the line, you think they would of offered a payment method or a far price like any other vet would of charge.Which i found out afterwards.Just because its a sat,why should i have to pay $1255 when a local vet would of only charged us $250.If thats not greedy then i don't know what is.Some people become very close to their pets,as we did!Well our choices was to sign our dog over to them or put him to sleep. We decided if he had any chance to live we would like him too.Well if thats not bad enough,we couldn't even call back to see how he was doing. So to this day we don't even know if he is died or alive.

Mountain View Animal Emergency

Mountain View Animal Emergency is an amazing place to take your pets. Dr. Wilson is an extremely compassionate person!!! My only complaint is that it is not a full time office. I trust him so much that I wish he could be my main vet!!!I'm very sorry that the one individual was unable to pay to helps save his pet. It's my opinion that people do not take into account the actual cost of having a pet!!! Things happen all the time, you cannot expect your pet to always be healthy, so you should be able to pay for emergency situations on occasion. I think that taking the pet is a little odd, but at least the pet is still alive today.
