Never will I waste meat that was killed for me and my family to
eat, and never will I view hunting as just a sport. Respect needs to
paid to the animal. You have taken its life, and the most respectful
thing I feel you can do is honor it by making the most out of what you have harvested. That includes an ethical shot to begin with,
by the way, as well as the stories you tell later to illustrate the
animal’s personality--and then utilizing every possible portion of
its body.

My heart started thumping, much to my surprise, and I remember
thinking about it being annoying or at the very least hoping it
wouldn’t get in the way.

When I dropped my pig off at the butcher, I said a silent and quick
goodbye to her, and I thanked her for feeding my family. It felt
akin to saying goodbye to a friend. I will never forget my first
pig and I will always honor the experience of my time with it by
being the best and most ethical hunter that I can ever be, and I will
always be thankful for the lessons that were taught to me by my
first big game animal.

I am shocked at some of the negative reviews here. Being a member for 3 years, I can say that most of the experiences people are describing couldn't be further from the truth. In the time I have been a member, I have harvested 4 pigs, and two beautiful deer. Through the years, a current total of 7 of my friends have joined the club and remain members, all of which have had good hunting experience as well.

One thing people need to understand is that Mike who is the sales rep, is a very stern and direct. These people want to make sure that you are the right fit for the club. It's not a playground, it's people dealing with guns. There will be the mentality of, "take it or leave it", but I think that's what makes this club so great and safe. You are either going to get people who love this club or people that absolutely hate it, there really isn't any in-between.

The bottom line is that sometimes we act like children when we don't get what we want.

The properties tend to be more accessible than public land. When I hunt WU land, it is never crowded, I'm not thinking about what I am going to run into in terms of other hunters or just other users of the property. If I am on some game, I'm not worried about someone else coming in to spoil the hunt. I don't know the other members but when I meet them on the property that have all seemed to be good people and the ranch owners have told me that their problems, such as people shooting livestock and property damage has disappeared after leasing to WU. Some of the properties are fantastic, others OK. I would say the camping sites are fair to poor but they come with fences and locked gates so I feel my gear is more secure.

But if you want a hunting experience with minimal hassle and decent opportunities to put meat in the freezer, WU works better than anything else in this state.

I joined the Oregon club in 2016. I am predominately an angler, so I use the fishing properties extensively. The fishing is very well managed, and I have had some epic days fishing with flies for large wild trout on the rivers, as well as lure and fly fishing for large planter triploid trout in the still water locations. My favorite locations are the White River Ranch, in Tygh Valley, and the John Day River. These pieces of water are managed as 100% wild fisheries, and the fishing is world class. Reservations are required for all visits to all properties, and I haven't been denied a reservation yet. Nor have I seen another soul on any visit. It's like having my own rivers, lakes and ponds. Truly worth every nickel.

It was a dark damp morning, and upon arriving at Keeley I wasn’t sure as to what to expect. I was told by the reservation desk that I would be sharing blind #1 with a new member and his son, they were also first time hunters with Wu.

I set out with a plan that had been woven together based upon experiences that were had only the day before. There were 3 things for sure. One, the pigs were going to be coming from the barley fields to seek shelter and safety in which to bed down for the day. Two, the pigs were going to seek that safety over the hills behind me. And three, well, I knew I had to place myself early and only once; for yesterday, they'd made a steady beeline for their destination, and any attempt to catch them was probably going to be a futile effort for my novice trigger finger.

I would like to thank you and Susan for putting together the BOW hunt. It certainly was memorable. I appreciated what I was taught and the willingness of everyone involved to share their knowledge. Please pass my thanks on to my guide Harold and his dog Abe, they taught me a lot. I enjoyed seeing Abe retrieve the duck it was awesome to see him work. Please thank Justin for teaching us how to clean our ducks. I appreciate the chefs that cooked dinner for us, please thank them also. Thank everyone else that played a part in making this happen for us.
