Speaking from the perspective of both a student and the parent of children that are students, I can not say enough positive things about CJJA. We have been regulars at the academy for over five years, during that time Mickey and all of the instructors have been nothing short of amazing.

After reading one specific review of CJJA it is clear that someone has an ulterior motive because I have never once witnessed any of the negative things mentioned in the review. The only reasons that I can see someone failing to succeed at CJJA are a lack of heart and desire to learn.

Mickey is the best and most technical instructor I have ever had! His focus on the details and fundamentals is incredible and separates him from most black belts. As a reference.. I've been training for 9 years and had 6 different instructors. I wish I still lived there just to train with Mickey.

Amazing Jiu Jitsu school! I personally know of a handful of people who travel over an hour (one way) to train with Mickey because he's honestly the best instructor I've meet. Family friendly atmosphere, professional instructors, perfect Jiujutsu. If you are the least bit interested in learning a practical, effective martial art walk into the Chattanooga Jiujutsu Academy. You will not be disappointed.

There are only a few places left on the Earth that teach Helio Gracie's Jiu-Jitsu, but Mickey Swafford's Chattanooga Jiu-Jitsu Academy is one of them. He teaches old school Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and some of his guys are just plain monsters. Good folks, family friendly, great attitudes, clean/modern facilities and the instruction is second to none. If you haven't trained there yet, you are missing out on what Jiu-Jitsu is really all about.

I train at another gym that I love. I know some of the guys at Chattanooga Jiu Jitsu Academy including owner Mickey. I was in Georgia at a competition an in a bad technical situation. I heard Mickey stop his conversation so he could help Ken (me). He came close and coached me back to safety. We only meet a few times before that and I never trained under him. Nevertheless, his precise instructions shaved me from having to tap or nap. His calm and detail intruction is what one should seek when looking for an instructor.

Me. Swafford is not only the best Jiu Jitsu instructor in Chattanooga he is one of the best in the country. I live 90 miles away and have traveled regularly for the last 8 years for his instruction. If you are in Chattanooga area CJJA is a must visit location!

Chattanooga Jiu Jitsu Academy is THE place to learn self defense! Mickey Swafford has created an environment where morals, proper training, and being humble about the art are the standard. The best guys in the academy are some of the nicest people you will ever meet, and it causes everyone else to emulate them through training. I was super intimidated before my first class because I expected a bunch of cocky MMA fighter types, but I was pleasantly surprised to meet a bunch of people who seem to only care about making me better at self defense. I would recommend Mickey's academy to anyone!

I'm fortunate enough to have trained at Chattanooga Jiu Jitsu Academy for the past 7+ years under Mickey Swafford. His teaching style and knowledge of self defense are outstanding. I have taken my boys who are now 10 and 12 to CJJA since they were 4 and 6. I love the way that Mickey incorporates respect, confidence and anti-bullying into every class.
