Provided by YP.comChris M came to my home on a Sunday morning to fix my only toilet. He needed a part so he went to a hardware store, purchased the part and fixed my toilet in good time. He was knowledgeable and professional. He made sure all was working in good order. Thank you, Chris, and thank you A-1 American. The job was well done!

Provided by YP.comCalled for a clogged drain pipe for the washer and found a major leak in the main water line. The tech, Rich, showed and explained every step needed for the repair. Although costly, but less than other local companies' quotes, the work he did was was great. Highly recommend A-1 to anyone needing plumbing work done.

I try to be objective when selecting a company to perform a service for me. I look at their ratings from other customers through various review sites, whether they are registered with the BBB, whether the services they advertise are as advertised and their work is within their competitors price range and finally when I do select them that they are fair and do the job right the first time.
So where to begin:
This Company Ratings: On an avg 3 depending, but with a bunch of 5's as of late on one site only.
Member of the BBB: No
Advertised: 24 hour emergency service. Nope. I called roughly at 2:30 a.m. for an emergency service request with no reply. Called at roughly 7:30 AM and a person answered, said the office didn't open until 8, took my information down and stated that someone will call me back. Called roughly at 9:30 because I yet to have been called back. Got scheduled for an afternoon appointment.
Discounts: offered, but you have to ask for each one.
Service:
Issue identified that a part on a item purchased 3 yrs ago required to be replaced, Cost for the replacement part and service fees was in the " thousands" which roughly equated to 85% of the value of the entire item when purchased brand new.
Unfortunately, despite the cost, I agreed to have the very needed service to be done, since I was still awaiting call backs and time was of the essence due the local weather conditions. A work order was placed and the technician left. Shortly after that, the call backs occurred and to my shock, I discovered for what work needed to be done, it could be done in the hundreds, NOT THOUSANDS of dollars.
What would you do?
I called roughly an hour later to cancel the work order with the expectation of being charged for the tech coming out for a service call. NOPE: I got the entire cancel fee charged to me totaling several hundred dollars. Note: read the contract Cancel fee then get several quotes before agreeing to their contract.
Finally, the other companies that had called back did provide both feedback, estimates and a willingness to come by. Last company came at 9 pm. Provided a temporary fix and was scheduled for a follow up the next day.
Final Result:
A correct diagnosis was identified and I was educated on what caused the problem. A warranty for year for current work and prorated as a difference in the event that what was diagnosed by A-1 would come to fruition, 24 hr call service ( both by the owner and s tech on call) and a bill for less than the cancel fee charged by A-1.
Hmmm now that's what I call service. A-1 you gotta some serious competition to which I will be sending them referrals

Provided by YP.comI called A-1 because of all the positive reviews. They someone out to give me an estimate on replacing my central air-conditioner. The individual wrote a total on a post-it note, and charged me $70.00 for that service. I found A-1 surprisingly unprofessional, and would not recommend them.

Provided by YP.comHave a reputation for unethical business practices. Unadvertised motto of "you only get a customer once so make as much money from them as possible." That's why they charge by the job not the hour..

Provided by YP.comPlease be aware that you may be paying 2-3 times the going rate if you use A-1 American.
We recently had the capacitor go out on our outside AC unit & they refused to give price over phone & required a $80 service call. After arriving, they were charging a $510 "value rate" for this repair ($710 normally??) based on "book value" (which was the pricing we had originally requested on the phone). The part changed was ~$10 & the repair took ~10 mins. The tech was on site for 24 mins total. After he left we called around a few other places & they said the average for this repair should be $230 including O&P. We have friends who got stuck w/ a ~$300 bill from them for un-clogging a tub (again ~ 10 mins on site).
We have reached out 7-8 times since the 15th of Aug. to get this corrected, but they refuse to call back. They are advertising: "will do everything in our power to see that you are satisfied", they will and they "will keep your costs reasonable" all of which is false advertising.

I was extremely pleased with the professionalism, knowledge, and workmanship evidenced during the installation of my new AC unit. James took the time to answer all my questions and made sure that my wife also understood everything. Thank you James and A-1 for taking care of us.

Provided by YP.comI recently experience an incident that created heat and frustration with our home A/C unit. When I got home, our new puppy had chewed the wires on the A/ C unit. Of course, this would only happen on the hottest day of the year so far. Now, keep in mind, I know that if I call my home warranty company, I would get the standard, "we will send someone out in the morning". See, this happened at 8:00pm. Well, I called A-1 American and they not only responsed within 45 minutes. When Joe came out, he was extremely professional, executed the repairs very quick, provided us with some pointers on how to combat the "wire biting dog" challenge, and also discuss preventive maintenance based on our unit condition. This service stood out to us because as consumers, we continue to run into marginal professional service. A-1 American is far above an average service providing company. Their professional approach toward service will ensure I reference their company if I ever need A/C service again.

Provided by YP.comDrip, drip, drip. I tried 15 times to fix the bathtub leak myself. My wife had had enough. Me or the drip. I called A-1 American and they sent Jim from the Virginia Beach office. No more drip. Happy Wife = Happy Life.

Provided by YP.comWe had been having a back flow problem from our washing machine for about a year. I would snake out the pipe and within a few days the problem would return. I called A-1 American and requested them to send someone out to look at my problem and give me an estimate on the repairs. They sent Brian out and within just a few minutes he was able to tell me that my problem was that my pipe was clogged because it did not maintain a correct slope from one end to the other. He gave me an estimate on the required repairs and I agreed. He came back the next day and replaced a 20 foot section of PVC pipe and flushed out the remaining section. We have not had any problems since. A-1 American did an excellent job for us and I would recommend them to anyone!

I recently noticed a surge in our water bill and thought there may be a leak in one of our toilets. I also heard a loud noise when I tried to open and close the shut off valve. I thought of calling a company that I had used before, but decided to try A-1 American since I saw their TV commercial all the time. I am glad I did!!
The lady that answered the phone was very polite . She gave me an appointment the same afternoon.
The technicians Larry and John came on time and were very professional. They looked at the toilet in question and said the problem is the flush valve. They replaced it in a reasonable time and it is working fine.
