Provided by YP.comOMG!! I can't say enough about this Beauty School. I've been coming since they were at the original site in Newark on Amstel Avenue. I have never had a bad experience. For a beauty school there prices are so reasonable and the service is always out standing. I really feel like every time I'm there it feels like a true up scale salon all the way!

Provided by YP.comI love this school. They just moved to Shoppes of Louviers and the new place is awesome. The old school was pretty cool but the new place is just too cool. They have the cheapest prices for haircuts.

Provided by YP.comIm a student at Schilling Douglas and I wanted to come tell everyone how much I like this school. Ive been here for 7 months and expect to graduate in about 4 months and Ive had a great time the whole time Ive been here. We just recently went on a school field trip to NYC for a hair show and we had the best time up there. We also did a fashion show a few months ago. Its so much fun going to school here.

Provided by YP.comI went to this school for the first time with my girlfriend so she could get her hair cut and I ended up getting my hair cut also and its one of the best cuts I have ever gotten. The girl who cut my hair was super cool and did a great job. I would highly recommend any guy to go here to get there hair cut. The girls are super cool and its super cheap.

Provided by YP.comI am a former student of Schilling Douglas and Im shocked to see bad reviews on this school from former students. I received a great education from the school. When I graduated I passed the state exam with flying colors because I was taught everything I needed to know about Cosmetology. And now Im working in a high end salon, making great money.
The teachers were always very helpful and very personabIe. I imagine that the students that have been giving bad reviews were some of the bad students that were enrolled there while I was there. They didnt like to be told what to do ,they wanted to come and go as they pleased and were just plain lazy. They didnt want to have to work to get the education that they were paying for. Dont let a few bad reviews from these students influence your decision on going to school there. I would highly recommend this school to anyone who is looking at becoming a hair stylist. I cant say enough good things about this school or the employees that work there.

Provided by YP.comMy first visit was very nice where the stylist seemed interested in providing a nice haircut. The next two visits were okay but I had to visit within two weeks since this was basically a trim with very little taken off. The color was a touch-up and actually looks good. The last haircut was embarrassing and I am so disappointed. The stylist was nice but could care less what she did to my hair. I would go back to get it fixed but she cut my hair so short, I will need to wait until my hair grows in again. I have decided to visit a real salon and count this as a bad experience.

Provided by YP.comI am a graduate of Schilling-Douglas School of Hair Design and I am 200% happy with my education. All these reviews saying negative things about the teachers, education, rules, etc is all nonsense. The only thing Schilling-Douglas school wants to teach its students is how to be a responsible and knowledgable hairstylist/employee. I went through the same curriculum as every student that has gone through the program and had to follow all the same rules and regs and I am a very successful hairstylist. Not every school is a "good fit" for everyone so instead of bashing the school why don't you go find a school that you fit in to. One that let's there students do whatever they want and has a low passing/licensure percentage because of it. This school does everything they are supposed to and then some. They even offer a bag packing class for graduates for when they go back to take there boards so that they feel comfortable. They also offer FREE educational classes to students enrolled and past graduates on certain nights. They do not "MAKE" anyone stay in for lunch to work in there salon. You have an option to take a lunch after you have completed the service. You aren't "working for free" in there salon, you are getting education on what it is like inthe REAL WORLD of salons. You can't just stop in the middle of a service when you are in the real world because you are hungry. All I can say is that it is what you make of it. And as we all know, some people aren't cut out for this industry and in my opinion, the ones that complain about the school are probably the ones that won't make it in the industry. Good luck.

Provided by YP.comI paid $160 for Keratin and am very unhappy with the results. I have had keratin many times in the past and I am familiar with the application and the outcome. I went to this salon since they offer the treatment for half the price I pay at my regular salon. The tech applied the product and flat ironed my hair. However, she then rinsed the treatment out of my hair! Keratin is not to be rinsed out of the hair until after the 4 day waiting period. When I objected she stated that was how she was taught to do it and that they must use a different kind of keratin then my regular salon uses. Well she rinsed it out and I waited the four days hoping she was right. My hair is horrible! It is frizzy and not at all like the results I am used to getting with the keratin treatment. I have an appointment next Thursday with my regular salon for another keratin treatment. This is disappointing since keratin treatments usually last 3-4 months. I am now out $160 and will never go back to Schilling Douglas!

Provided by YP.comSchilling-Douglas is not worth the savings!! I have had some pretty bad haircuts in my life, but this school gave me THE WORST HAIRCUT I have ever had! And I have been to numbers of other beauty schools also. It's not just the student that cut my hair either, because her supervisor signed off on it.
When I returned a few weeks later to complain and tell them my hair was now long enough to fix they told me too bad, they only warranty their work for 1 week! Seems this place was less concerned about giving their students hair-cutting experience and more concerned about just making money on both ends of the stick.
I am a very polite person but no amount of concern was shown for the haircut I received. I had to go to a professional salon to have them fix it. And I'm a guy getting a typical short guys hair-cut! If they can't get a guys cut right, then what can they do? I couldn't believe they wouldn't fix my hair for me either. Way to teach your students about professional responsibility. "You signed a waiver" the instructor told me. What does that have to do with them fixing my hair? I wasn't threatening a lawsuit, I just wanted the mistakes corrected.
In a world where big corporations shows no concern for the little guy, seems this beauty school doesn't know what concern is either.

Provided by YP.comI would encourage anyone interested in attending a beauty school in the area to look elsewhere! (The Delaware Academy or American Beauty Academy) Every single student attending HATES going to school there! Make sure you speak to them before signing any papers! They are dictators and trick the students into being forced to continue to attend school even if they are unhappy. Their cancellation policy holds students responsible for full tuition prices once they complete half of the program. They have designed their curriculum to keep students interested just long enough to reach that 50% rate. The last half of your education is spent "working" in their salon area. (sometimes when they are busy they force the students to go without lunch to accomodate their "clients") No new education is taught in your senior level. Even with this unethical practice their graduation rate is barely half of the students who enroll. That is how much students hate it. People would rather be stuck with a tuition bill then continue to attend that school. Almost every single student gets forced into an "overtime contract" due to their unreasonable demands on making up time. What you think will cost you $14,200 will cost you thousands more! The rules set in place by the owners are ridiculous and the teachers are encouraged to "kick you out of class" for any reason whatsoever. You are then responsible to make up that time on their unreasonable make up policy. The owners of this school have no interest in the well being of the students as they have been constantly heard berating, judging and gossiping about students. The only thing the owners care about is money. Look elsewhere for your beauty education and actually enjoy the education you are paying for!

Provided by YP.comThis is a great place to get a basic cut or a children's cut. I have been here many times for me & my son. For basic trims & kids cuts, you can't go wrong. If your hair is already in the style you want, you'll be ok. Otherwise, go somewhere else to get the new look & come here for maintenance on the existing outline. If you are trying to change your look & want to come here to do it, I strongly recommend you bring in a picture of EXACTLY what you want. Some stylists get it & others don't -don't take the risk of assuming they understand what you want. Same with hair color. Take in a picture or 3 of this & you can avoid just about any problem. One caveat: If you are short on time, go another day. They can take as long as an hour and a half for a hair cut. The staff is friendly & the money you save makes it worth the extra time. I've had worse cuts & colors at top salons in Hockessin.
