Miami Bar and Key West Cove av...

Miami Bar and Key West Cove have now instituted stricter rules. One of the rules is a hat rule, and I think that it's unfair that some hats they ban that are not a threat or gang related. One of my friends wears nice Stacy Adams, Biltmore, and other fancy hats that he pays good money for and he now has to take off his hat. He still goes up there and I don't know why. My thing is, if you are going to ban hats, ban athletic hats and beanies, not hats you can wear with a suit or nice clothing. They even make the famales take off their hats now, which is stupid.
Also, do not be suprised if your vehicle gets broken into. I've been to Miami Bar and Key West Cove three times since they opened, and each time I've gone, people are in the parking lot talking about how somebody broke in their vehicle. Plus, I've heard from people I know who go there that they have heard of vehicles being broken into or their own vehicle was broken into.
Now, as far as the incident that took place in January 2012 that made news, I think that guy is just seeking attention. When they interviewed him, there was not a mark or scratch. Even the police did not file a report or make an arrest, which shows you right there that the story is just an excuse for people to feel sorry for the guy.
Miami Bar and Key West Cove are pretty much like a third world county, corrupt and unstable.

This place is comical

Been in the industry for years, I went in to find a inormous bar that's needs to be properly staffed with four bartenders and two bar backs only staffed with two "bartenders". Went to sit down and the chair fell apart! I put the broken chair on the bar and then waited for seven minutes to make a drink order. When the bartender finally came to me she asked the other bartender to put the chair back together and put it back at the bar!? She then told me what wells are one special and I left. Very rude staff and tacky decor, it's bars like this that are the reason for the show bar rescue! Stay away!

VERY IMMATURE, RUDE &UNPROFESSIONAL BARTENDERS!! We when then for a friends birthday party, it was the WORST place I have ever been to in San Anotnio!! I have been a bartender for 4 years in downtown SA so I no busy places, the bartenders at this bar are VERY immature, unprofessional, and VERY VERY RUDE!! She would not give me her name, she was throwing emty glass because she was mad over a customer, and irritated, when the customer walked away she started talking about her to other customers saying "F*** that B****"! That is very UNPROFESSIONAL! It was so bad others in the bar would even say she was very rude or in the real words a B****! she even had a whistle she would blow at customers for who knows what reason.. I feel bad for the other bartenders who have to split tips with her because she is not making no tips with her rude attitude! she would not let me close my tab, she would ignore me when she would see me! I would never go there again and will tell everyone I know not to go! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY GOING TO MIAMI BAR!! BARTENDERS ARE B****ES!!

another joes volcano

The atmosphere is hoochie mama with wannabe thug. The music is more hip hop n r&b. They do not allow hats but yet shorts yes. I would have to agree it is a strange dress code. ,It is slightly ghetto but with the right friends we can be fun. It has been knowb for violent outbursts. Usually guys that cannot take no for an answer.

Rude & unprofessional

Tried to go on a Friday night and they did not accept out of state I.d.'s and no passports from any other country other that American passports. Wtf i guess they don't want any other people in there other than Americans my uncles are from Germany and couldn't come in. Are they racist or what could be the reason. My uncles are in their 30 and def. look it. I'm in the military and I'm defenetly not going back to that place. There's a lot better places with cheap drinks that let other nationals attend. Like America is not composed of different nationalities all over the world. Don't recommend it.

This bar sux dont waste your time.

So this weekend we decided to go to "Miami Bar" for my sisters birthday, the location is close to home, so it would have been the perfect spot except when we got there and showed our ID's the so called bouncers wouldn't let my husband in because he has a small tattoo behind his ear, when we spoke to "the manager" he said my husband needed to wear a scarf to come in....as idiotic as it sounded we decided to leave and not put our money into a bar who thinks they have higher standards then someone else....my question, are tatoos going to give you a bad name for your business?? After reading these reviews I'm actually glad we left because I would never associate myself with a business who gay bashes...we actually had a friend with us who is gay and hearing about their actions at this place is really disgusting...bars in stone oak don't even have strict rules like this and are nicer. FYI don't waste your time or money on this place bouncers are lame and manager needs to lose weigh before he starts judging someone else's appearance. And a scarf, really is san Antonio for a man to wear, get over it I will def tell ppl to STAY away from this establishment!!!

This place is awesome, Im open...

This place is awesome, Im openly gay and have excellent service here all the time. If you feel like acting like a girl when you are a boy you need to go else where, there are bars for those types of acts.

And as far as everyone jumping on his bandwagon it's probably the same person with too much time on their hands since they cant display real names. Miami bar I wouldn't worry I plan on having another party this weekend.

For that many people to escort you out you must have been acting a fool and probably a bad tipper as well, lol. And why didn't you dress like you normally dress for the news? Did you need more sympanthy?

If anyone is a disgrace to the san antonio gay community is people like "Henry" that disrespect the STRAIGHT community and think they can turn any straight guy. If people really wanted to see that they would go to the gay strip. Get a life and quit enmbarrassing yourself and the gay community.

As far as dress code goes guys wearing hats any "gentleman' will always take their hats off in front of a woman. If your hat is more important that the respect of a woman then maybe your at the wrong bar and the wrong side of town. LMAO

@rily34: So, my friend needs ...

@rily34:

So, my friend needs a lot of attention because he was assaulted for being gay? Umm...yeah, hate crimes need attention, so people will stop doing hate crimes and/or turning a blind eye to them.

What "bandwagon" are we jumping on, since the vast majority of us KNOW Henry? What "bandwagon" is standing up for gay rights, as well as human rights?

If YOUR mother, father, sister, brother, best friend, friend, or anyone else that you were close to, was the victim of a hate crime, would you say that they were seeking attention? You are incredibly closed-minded and devoid of compassion.

You saw the news story, but you didn't see the bruising and marks on his neck and face? Are you blind? So what was my friend supposed to do, take the band aid off and show you what was underneath? His bruising alone is worth investigating.

Your argument is so weak that you resorted to talking about my friend's skin? Wow, that really holds water.

You don't know how hard it is being gay. There is no word that YOU can be called that would equal the amount of hurt and anger that comes from the word "f*ggot". Try getting called that for most of your life and see if you don't do something impulsive, like throw a glass. Count yourself lucky that you don't have to go through the discrimination and brutality that A LOT of gay people go through.

Even though you're being extremely immature and hateful, I hope that you never go through anything even remotely similar to what my friend went through.

Regardless of sexual orientation, we have ALL, at some point, been the victims of some form of discrimination. Remember back to an instance that YOU went through and try to find some compassion, instead of filling your heart with hate and ignorance.

How can you say Miami Bar isn'...

How can you say Miami Bar isn't homophobic, because its director of human resources is purportedly gay? What a weak response. Miami Bar's PR people are not very creative. Try again.

That supposedly gay human resources person was NOT there. My friend was called a f*ggot and violently and unnecessarily assaulted for his sexual orientation. The bartender was NOT fired, so Miami Bar is supporting homophobia, plain and simple.

What a weak and ignorant establishment.

You're a filthy little maggot. You're part of their 'team.' I hope for your sake, no one beats the tar out of you, for being a complete moron. Maybe then, you'd know what it's like to be a victim. You're a worthless excuse for a human.

This place doesn't deserve a rating. I only gave it one star because ZERO STARTS IS NOT AN OPTION!!! I am going to tell EVERYONE about this place and why they should NOT frequent this establishment! When it takes 6 men to drag out 1 gay person? What does that tell you? Sounds like homophobia to me. They must have been really afraid of this guy too...kicking the man while he's down. He probably would have taken them in a fair fight, one on one!

To true123:

Yes, its just SO unheard of for SAPD to turn a blind eye to crime, right? I don't know what world you live in where things like that don't happen. This is obviously a case of homophobia. The news, the bar, and the cops were all homophobic.

I am friends with Henry and if you had actually SEEN the news coverage, you'd have seen the photos of his physical damage and you could even see it on him, during the interview. OPEN YOUR EYES.

He should've been escorted out, not kicked and punched, while on the ground, hiding his face. He was attacked by SIX men. In what universe is that fair or okay?

Miami Bar, you are a disgrace to San Antonio. Like you would actually admit that you are homophobic. No, you know how to protect your prejudiced establishment. You are disgusting.

If the man had been beaten, don't you think the police would have made an arrest? The man didn't have any marks of being beaten. It's ignorant to believe everythiing you hear. Learn how to hold your liquor. If you throw a drink in a bartenders face, GLASS & ALL, you should be escorted out. Which is exactly what happened. Bring your drama somewhere else.

Yesterday, my good friend, Hen...

SHOWING MY SUPPORT FOR THE BAN OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT BY REPOSTING THIS STATUS I CAME ACROSS FROM A FRIEND ON FB:

"Yesterday, my good friend, Henry De La Paz was gay bashed at Miami Bar, by six men, which includes, two bouncers, and four other men. Tonight on Kens 5 News, at 10pm, his story will be told. Tune in for the recounting of this tragic and unnecessary assault, to be informed of the disgusting homophobia that Miami Bar shamelessly and mercilessly displayed.

Please show your support for my friend, Henry and for the entire GLBTQI community by boycotting Miami Bar and doing everything in your power to prevent people from being abused for their sexual orientation. If something of that nature is happening around you and you don't want to vocally and/or physically intervene, at least have the decency to call the police. It IS your business! This is a human rights issue, not just a gay rights issue. This affects EVERYONE.

Don't support Miami Bar. May their ignorance shut the doors on their business, forever. I hope they are handed hefty sentences that change their myopic perspectives.

I wish my friend, Henry a full recovery of the body, mind, and spirit. I hope he understands how much we all love and support him. We love you, Henry and we will keep fighting, until you receive true justice!"

On January 17th, 2012, staff members attacked a patron for being gay. They kept calling him "F*ggot" and eventually, the bartender jumped over the bar, saying, "Let's jump this f*ggot" and had about 4 other staff members assist in the repeated hitting and kicking of the individual, who lay on the floor, defenseless, covering his face, not even fighting back. This is DISGUSTING, and the bar and all bars related to it should be SHUT DOWN. The staff members should be in jail for their violent hate crime, and this bar does not deserve any of your money. DO NOT GO HERE.
