Tom Knorr took my $500 deposit (cash) on 3/24/12, promised he'd start work within the next week and after many calls to a voicemail box that "cannot accept messages at this time", still do not have any work being perfomed. I am filing a court judgment against him, reporting him to the BBB and contacting the IRS about his "cash" and "checks made out to Tom Knorr" business. He is a cheat, liar and a crook. If I cannot recover my money then I hope he ends up in a 8 x 8 jail cell for fraud. DO NOT USE VA ROOF LEAKS AND BEWARE OF TOM KNORR!!!!!

Tom came by looked at the house gave an estimate and was given a down payment of over five hundred dollars for supplies and etc: Have not heard from him since. He sure did cash my check though. Do not use this person ever he is a fraud and will take your money and run.

Gave Tom a down payment of 480 dollars. He never returned to do the job. VERY SHADY AND TERRIBLE person. My fault for giving him a down payment but I have done this in the past and had a receipt. I am also in the military so thanks for screwing a military member as well!

Last fall we gave Tom a 50% downpayment to replace roof. $2600 down - he never returned! Hope he had a nice Christmas with our money . Now we are taking him to court and hope to see him behind bars for contract fraud. How do people like this stay in business?

Unfortunately i made a grave mistake and did not check reviews of this company until it was to late. I called TOM and 2 other roofers, and he was the first one to call me back. He came over that day, around the time he stated and gave me my free estimate.



After some talking we settled on what seemed to be a fair price of about $900, with $350 upfront for materials. I figured thats not an unacceptable price, nor an outrageous upfront fee.



Needles to say i payed the $350 and after receiving in writing the agreement, he left. Needless to say 2 weeks later nothing happened. I called him multiple times and left voicemails, no response. I heard the same "voicemail box full" message as others.



Eventually i went to the address on his website, which is his home and this is when the surprise set in: For a handyman his house looked to be in utter disrepair!! After confronting him and talking he said he'd start the work that week. This was back in 30SEPT2011. Nonetheless i have yet to hear from him, had to hire someone else, and am out $350.



DO NOT USE HIM AT ALL!!!!! He will take your money, and do nothing for his work.

Do not use this roofer! I cannot express how horrible my experience with him has been. When he initially came out to fix my roof leaks he exceeded his proposed repair time by 6 to 8 weeks. In that time he took my final payment w/o finishing the work. I left a check under the mat because he told me the work would be done that day, it wasn't. When I asked him why he would take the check w/o finishing the work he told me that he did not want to leave it under the mat. Then I asked him why he would cash it then, to which he had no answer. He would also lead me on, telling me he would be out at a certain time and he would never show. He would never call me and cancel, he would just not show. After I called him numerous times and after several days he would call back and give me some childish excuses i.e; His wife would not let him leave the house, his employee was goofing around in his van and hurt himself, and his employee hid his cell phone in his van so he could not call me back. The only employee I saw him with was in his 50s or 60s, hard to believe he was fooling around. Eventuall he finished the work. I did have to warn him with calling the police since he took the full payment w/o finishing his work which was in writing that he would no do.



Fast forward eight months and my roof is leaking. Now I am trying to get him back out to honor his 3 year warranty. Needless to say he is back to his old tricks of not showing up and avoiding phone calls.



Once again to anyone looking for a roofer, AVOID THIS MAN, it is better to have your roof leaking down on your head as you sleep than to strike up business with this man. ALSO, DO NOT BELIEVE ANY OF THESE POSITIVE REVIEWS, if you look him up in on google you can find that his wife's name is Lisa, then look at the very first review, it is written by a "LKNORR". Maybe a coinidence or he is flooding this page with reviews to balance out the negative ones

Run! Run away! I'm an idiot. I gave them money for materials before they did the work. Haven't seen hide nor hair of them since. Not taking my calls. Not doing the work. Now their voicemail is full. If I had lived nearby, I would never have wired them the money. I would have met them at the property and paid when the work was through. But I don't live nearby. And my house In VB was just hit by Irene. I just needed the repair to be done. Flush! That's the sound of my money going down the toilet. :(

Unreliable!

Tom does okay work, IF you can get him to show up. He was finishing up a job for me when we made arrangements for another job. He said he would get the materials and come back the following week. Since I already had my checkbook out, I (stupidly) paid him for both the job he finished and the one to come. Guess what - he never showed. It has been almost a year, he returns my calls about once every 2-3 months and apologizes profusely and promises to come. He has my money and I have nothing, and this after I hired him AND recommended him a neighbor who also gave him work.

I wanted to make sure I put a review on here esp after seeing the last person's comments.



I have had a roofing problem for a long time - well over a year. I've had 3 companies come out and do work on my roof. And as soon as I called them back to tell them it was still leaking - they would only come back out if I paid them. None would come back out free of charge - to fix the problem. And the 1st company- they "fixed" (so they said) my leak and within 1 week, it rained and my roof still leaked. Yet they would not come back out again. I was referred to Va Roof Leaks by a friend of mine that used Tom. He's a high ranking Officier and told me he refers all his friends and family to Tom when they have any type of roofing problem. He came out and told me the problem - which was a whole different problem and area than what the roofers worked on. And Tom was able to fix it. I will say, I had a slight leak after he did the work. It was a tough leak. But when I called Tom, he came out - re-sealed the area and we've gone through several rains and it's not leaked again. Tom has even called me periodically to check in with me. How many roofers do that? Plus the warranty. None of the other companies I dealt with did either.... I would refer him to any of my family and friends. And anyone reading these reviews, remember one thing - I work with the public everyday and there's one thing I know for sure -



You Can't Please Everyone!



I would use this company again...without a doubt.

I had Tom come out and give me an estimate on my leaking roof. He made me feel very comfortable about how he could fix my leak. He did not even get around to fixing my roof until almost a month later. The next big rain storm it started to leak again. I proceeded to call him and kept getting his voicemail. I left several messages and finally he calls me back. He comes out to fix another piece of my roof near the chimney. My roof still is leaking. I have been calling him for over two weeks leaving messages that I need him to come out and fix my roof based on his guarantee. I have not heard from him yet. I had my father go up on my roof to see if he could see any problems. My father stated that he did not even think any work has been done to my roof.

I hope this review helps others so that they do not get into the same problems that I am currently dealing with. At this point I am going to contact the Better Business Bureau and even look into legal action.

I had a Roof Leak. I live down at the beach so it's a common problem in this area. I've had several roofing companies come out. They have tried to sell me a new roof several times. But I know enough that- I don't need one. They have big time sales people that do their best to sell you the most expensive products and services on the market. Just because I live at the beach doesn't mean I have undisposable money. Others have tried to fix the leak. All have been unsuccessful. Tom came out and explained everything to me. He didn't try to sell me a new roof because that's not what I need or expensive products/services. And he fixed my problem. And not only that- he also painted the inside of my house, where the water stains were on my wall. Its such a professional job. You would have thought a professional painter did it. I like that I also have a 3 year warranty. I would def refer this company to my family, friends and neighbors! Thank you for a job well done.

I had a skilight leak and apparently it was in a difficult area because I had 4 roofing companies come out and try to fix it. I am so frustrated because not 1 of them would come back out. I either could never get a return call or they wanted to charge me more money. I can see why roofing companies get a bad name... but then I was referred to Va Roof Leaks by a friend of mine. They came out - gave me an estimate and was on the job the next day. Tom fixed the problem and so far I haven't had any more leaks. And if I do - I know he will be back out to fix it. I would much rather use a smaller, local company than a big outfit.

I had a leak on my flat roof for several months. I've gotten estimates and had one roofing company come out to 'try' to fix the leak. It still leaked and when I called t hem back, they said I would have to pay more money for them to come back out. I happen to see this ad and called. Tom came right out, quoted me a price that was cheaper than what I already paid the first roofing company and was able to fix my leak. I know if it leaks again, I have a warranty for 3 years. None of the other roofing companies I called have a warranty like that. They showed up on time, completed the work, didn't leave a mess and got the job done! I would def recommend this company and use this again... signed.. A Happy Customer.

Be aware: this company has not been reviewed yet because their last yellowpages.com listing made them look bad, so it was removed and replaced with a fresh one.

My transaction with Tom was a nightmare. First, after the job was started, he called me at work to tell me that he had all my shingles removed, but couldn't find any in the same color to replace them with. I'm sorry, but any kind of professional would have had the shingles on hand before he even removed the originals.

He kept asking me for payment before the job was complete. Every day that the job was going on I would receive a call asking for full payment. This was just another thing to tip me off that he is a shady character. I refused to pay until the job was completed.

While he was working on my roof, he set MY ladder (yes, he used my ladder-not his own) against my gutter and put a huge dent in it. He fixed this only after I told him about it, and even then his fix consisted of bending the gutter back with a vice grips, leaving marks and creases all over it. So, I ended up changing out a gutter.

I am still, to this day, finding nails in my yard, even though the job was done a year ago..

But the real kicker is that he promises you a warranty, and then does not back it up. I have been trying to get him out here to fix a leaking pipe collar for 3 months now, with no results. He tells you he will be there on a certain day and time and does not show. This is particularly bothersome since I took off work to be here for a no-show.

I cannot tell you strongly enough to stay away from this guy. He is crooked, shady, and will take you across any way he can. He will probably respond to this message with some lame excuse, as he has done on his past listing.

STAY FAR, FAR AWAY.

I have had many roofers on my roof. I own a business in Norfolk and have had so many problems with my roof and with roofing companies trying to fix it - telling me one thing- I pay them- it leaks and I can't get them to come back out. Well, I contacted Tom. I was impressed with all the reviews and that he has a warranty. I know there is 1 or 2 reviews on here that aren't impressive, but I don't believe them.... you know... you can't please everyone. How I know that by being a business owner myself.... Tom nailed the roof leak the first time... and I know if it does leak again.. I have a warranty for 3 years!!! WOW! That's unheard of these days..... Tom called me a few weeks after he did the job, as a courtesy - just to follow up. How many Roofking companies do that? I'm impressed and would highly recommend Tom and Va Roof Leaks....

I chose Tom to replace a section of roof on my house that was leaking after last year's Nor'easter. I paid the required downpayment and he went to work. The job ended up taking a few days longer than it should have because of rain, which is understood. The first thing that tipped me off that something was amiss was that during these few days he kept asking for full payment before the job was finished. This is not standard procedure for a contractor, and I refused to pay until the work was complete. The next thing that really made me question his professionalism was that he called me at work and told me that he had all the shingles off of my roof, but he didn't have any that matched in color in order to replace them. Why would a professional roofer remove shingles before he had something to replace them with? During the job, he placed the ladder against my rain gutters and put a large dent in them. His answer to repair this was to bend them back out with a pliers, leaving plier marks and bend marks in my gutters. This work was completed 10 months ago, and I am STILL finding old nails in my yard. But the true kicker is that I had a pipe collar begin to leak in the area that he repaired. I have been trying for 2 months to get him out here to repair it. He keeps telling me that next time he's in the area he will stop by and fix it. I guess in 2 months he hasn't been in Chesapeake. I made it clear to him that I wanted to be here when he did the work. He called today (finally) and said he was almost at my house. When I told him that I would leave work to meet him there he didn't want to wait and said he would call me later that day to set up an appointment. I could have been home in 20 minutes. It is now 8PM and no call has come yet.

This whole transaction has been a nightmare and I would not recommend him to anyone. He is not registered with the Better Business Bureau, he doesn't seem to care about fixing his mistakes once he pockets your money, he asks for money before the job is complete, and he has questionable business practices. I will be finding a reputable contractor to come fix his mistake that he does not seem too concerned about.

I called another roofer to do a simple repair and was quoted $850. I called VA Roof Leaks and was quoted an accurate price over the phone. VA Roof Leaks arrived the next day and fixed my roof in an hour for just under $200. VA Roof Leaks did a great job and fast. I appreciate the honest price (that matched other estimates I also got)

I called this company and Tom came out to look at my roof. I'm a teacher and in speaking with him, found out he is the Vice President of PTA in one of the local school's. That impressed me. Then when he was able to fix my leak, I was even more impressed! It's a leak that I've had for a long time. Another Roofing company came out and tried to fix it, but was not successful. And of course, they didn't have any type of warranty so I was stuck. So I had to pay to have the work done again. But I know I'm covered this time because I have a 3 year warranty. Plus I had my siding power washed. Great work, great price, reliable and honest.... You don't find too many Contractors these days with those qualities.... I would def use this company again!

I had a leek in my roof. I had stains on the ceiling. I couldn't figure out what was going on with my roof. I got up on my roof and couldn't find anything. I called a Roofing Company and they said I needed a new roof. I called Va Roof Leaks and when Tom looked at my roof, he knew right away I needed new ridge vents. We replaced the vents and I haven't leaked since. He was very good in explaining everything to me - told me exactly how they work and it all made sense. I saved a lot of money. I also have a warranty. The other company certainly didn't offer t hat. I would call Tom again for any roof problems.

I had a roof leak and knew I didn't need a new roof. Unfortunately, it was in my mother-n-law's room. So, I called 4 Roofing companies to come out. All 4 tried to sell me a new roof. I knew I didn't need one. I was on my room myself- and tried to fix the leak. And it worked for awhile. But I knew I needed to call a professional out. So when I read the ad for Va Roof Leaks, they specifically point out that they do not try to sell you a new roof plus they offer a 3 year warranty. None of the other companies that came to my home or that I read on line, offer that. So, I called Tom. He came out the same day, explained everything to me (and my mother-n-law). He fixed my roof. I haven't had any problems with that leak. Now I have a new one. So, I called Tom back. He just repaired that one. I have another 3 year warranty so I know if it leaks, he will be back out. I will use Va Roof Leaks every time I have a roofing problem and highly recommend this company!
