Provided by YP.comI am a long term client with several pets. I have always been happy with the care our many pets have received over the years. Mo, the vet tech, is a stand out employee. He is very knowledgeable and helpful when it come to things like giving medicine to a bird or small furry creature. The vets and staff are all very good.

Provided by YP.comEveryone at Midwest Bird & Exotic treats us like family. I’ve been taking my guinea pig there for 6-plus years, and always feel like the vets, vet techs and staff truly care about his health and well-being. They ensure he receives the best possible care without trying to push the more invasive or costly treatments. They respect my feelings and try to help me understand what’s going on whenever there’s a health issue. I feel so lucky to have found them.

Provided by YP.comMidwest Bird & Exotic Animal Hospital in my opinion is an excellent veterinary group for animals outside of the "norm" and from what I've seen from sitting in the waiting room I'm not the only person that leaves happy knowing that my furry companion is well taken care of and recognized as an important "person" in my life.

Provided by YP.comThank you for being here for our exotic pets! I've made mistakes of taking my exotics to vets close to my house who had no clue how to treat them. By coming here, I have peace of mind. Thank you.

Provided by YP.comHaving visited this hospital on several occasions, I have come to the conclusion that there are no specialists here, unless you include Billing Specialists, which doesn't do your pet much good. Most recently our pet was seen by multiple vets whom within a 3 day period didn't seem to know what tests the other had even performed and even asked me what I thought the problem was. After getting multiple tests on the first visit totaling hundreds of dollars we were told it may just be a fluke. A few days later the same problem and then was told by yet another vet (this one actually seeming to know what He may be talking about) a litany of possible tests going into the thousands of dollars. We being concerned about our pet were disturbed to find a general lack of feeling and concern and felt more like we were being milked out of our money, expressed this during a follow up call and visit only to be terminated as a client and informed of this by a fancy letter. Be prepared to hand them almost 100 $ when you walk in the door and if its over night don't be surprised by a bill anywhere from 500 - 1000 dollars this is only to find out what the problem may be or at least in my experience this has been the case with several pets dogs, cats and reptiles. You may wish to try Chicago Exotics for reptiles and Animal 911 for your dogs and cats etc. I am sure others maybe very pleased with this clinic but they will never have a good review from us their treatment of their clients is no better than their treatment of their clients pets/family which is sub-par at best.

Provided by YP.comI called Midwest bird on 3/19/2012 because by parakeet, Misty, was having problems sitting on her perch and her leg was sticking out, after being attacked by one of our other female parakeets. I told by the receptionist to bring her in immediately as this appeared to be serious. I was told that since I didn't have an appt, it would be $100, because it was considered an emergency. I don't own a car, so this was the closest place to go to that cared for parakeets. At first, it seemed like they were kind, considerate and knew what they were doing. They took Misty back and examied her - I was told to wait in the waiting room (unlike other vets, where you can accompany your pet). After a while, Dr. P came out and said that Misty had a broken leg and it would have to be operated on, and like any broken leg, it is painful. They appeared to be geniunely concerned. I told them that I would have to leave Misty here, because it would be a 4 to 5 hour wait. I called later and was told that Misty came out of the surgery and was eating. The total for this surgery was $387. I came the next day and was taught how to administegr the medicine (antibiotics and pain). The gentlemen who showed me how to do it was very nice and very knowledgeable. I brought Misty home and she was doing great, eating and drinking. I gave her the medicine as scheduled. I volunteer at a shelter so on Wed, my husband was going to be the "mommy" and check on her during the day. I came home at 4:00 pm and misty had gone to "bird heaven" -- my husband said that she was fine 1 hr ago. Disressed, I called Midwest, and was so taken back -- the receptionist told me that she was sorry for my loss. I asked if I could talk to Dr. P, to see if she knew what could have caused her to die. The receptionist said that without an autopsy and tissue sample, there was nothing that Dr. P could do or really say, as it could be anything, but I asked that Dr. P call me. I watied till today, Thursay to call back and asked again for Dr. P -- Dr P would not be available until next Wed, at which time, she may not have time to call me. They certainly had time enough when you first call -- but pay your money, the hell with you. I had filled out the survey and game them all Excellent marks since that was my first impression, but boy was I WRONG.!!! I would ever take another pet to this place. They are money hungry mongrels who don't really have any compassion for anyone but the money. Being told that your vet may not have time to call you -- what kind of "poo poo" is that??? All I can say is Shame on you !!!! If nothing, Dr. P could have called and expressed her sympathy for my loss. Now, any call that I get from her is useless and won't mean a thing. If you are looking for a vet that cares for parakeets, call the one in Niles -- stay away from this place, unless you want your pet to be plucked from their dignity.
And this place does not even deserve 1 star !!!
