My check engine light (CEL) came on for the first time at 3years/49k miles,
I took my car to Prestige Ford in Garland Texas Tuesday Sep 4, 2012.
Attached below is my letter to the service director explaining what happened.
Summary: I believe they tried to (1) up-charge me on service, (2) to sell me service that my car clearly did not need, and (3) to deny the level of service promised by The Ford Motor Company under the 2009 Ford Focus 5-year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty. I am requesting a prompt refund of what I have determined to be a very inappropriate $114 service fee.
I will update this post if my complaint is resolved.
TO: Jerry Crouch, Service Director Prestige Ford Garland, SUBJ: Problem With Service, 2009 Ford Focus, 49k Miles
I own a 2009 Ford Focus, with 49,009 miles, whose powertrain is still covered by the 2009 Ford Focus 5-year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty.
(1) I noticed the check engine light (CEL) on Thursday Aug 31st. The trouble code is p2009. (2) On Friday, I had the oil changed and new battery installed (scheduled maintenance). (3) The car's system reset, and after about 10 miles, the CEL came back on. (4) Tuesday afternoon around 11AM, I took the car to Prestige Ford (garland, TX), Tyler Watkins was my service consultant. (5) I advised about the CEL and the that car was running completely normally. (6) I waited about an hour and a half. (5) Recommended Action Plan was $589. and involved several hours of labor to remove the manifold and radiator, for the purpose of replacing a (claimed) broken vacum hose. (6) This didn't sound right, and I declined the service. (7) After driving the car home, turning off and restarting the car, the CEL is now off. (8) I've driven the car over 50 miles, and the CEL light remains off. I have been taking pictures of the dashboard to document this. (9) I returned to the dealership at about 9:30 Wednesday morning. Chad paged Tyler for me. I waited about 5 minutes, and returned to speak to Chad, because Tyler was unavailable. (10) I explained to Chad my experience. (11) Chad insisted that CEL would come back on. (12) Chad continued to tell me I was wrong. (13) Chad did not research to find out, and he did not know that the error code was p2009. (13) Chad never looked at my car. Chad did not consult with Tyler. Chad did not consult with the mechanic who serviced my car yesterday. (14) Chad did not direct my concerns to Jerry Crouch, the service director. (15) Chad proceeded to escort me out the door, although I did not think the issue was resolved.
PROBLEM: (1) I do not believe the 'IMRC solinoid to intake hose" is broken. (2) I believe your mechanic (that originally service my car on Tuesday) either knowingly or unknowingly fixed something in my car that was obviously very simple. He may have fixed a loose wire, or wire connection. He may have replaced a sensor. (3) Then, either deliberately with knowledge that the CEL issues was resolved, or because he didn't know what he was doing, recommended the $589 repair. I think evidence suggests that the recommended action to replace a 'IMRC vacum hose' was wrong.

Provided by YP.comMy wife and I went to Prestige ford to Purchase a Certified used ford Edge that was listed online for $24000. After calling to verify the price and vehicle availability we headed to the dealership. After agreeing to purchase the vehicle we headed to the finance office and I asked to see the price breakdown because the payments seemed very high. They had added almost $5000 in extras (Glass protection, oil changes, Extra warranty, etc) to the cost. After explaining that I wasnt interested in these "Options" I was told that they couldn't sell me the vehicle because that didnt leave them with any room for profit margin.
Confused, I asked if the price of the vehicle was $24,000 or $29,000? The Used Sales Manager stated it was $24,000, I then offered to pay $24,000 plus TTL and was told no. he explained that he didnt want to sell the vehicle to me and they have the right to deny business to anyone.
I would recommend avoiding this dealership at all cost. As I feel this falls under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act I have sent complaints to the BBB and the Texas Attorney Generals office.
