This is a wall for reviews on what people would say about PETCO, not just their groomers but I happened to notice that this "Sherry" person is very focused on insulting customers and unable to take any constructive criticism for the faults of herself or the grooming department. Obviously, by the example of how offensively defensive she seems to be, there must be some serious problems. You can not call someone a bad pet owner or just flat out insult the customers just to escape your own faults as a defensive measure. Just take the posts and reviews to heart and work on improving, that is the reason for reviews! I was planning on visiting PETCO because of all the adds on how great their services and products are, but based on these reviews I WILL NOT be visiting PETCO anytime soon and mainly because of this Sherry person. Management needs to take reviews like this seriously for the sake of not only their business but of their reputation, customers are what make companies like these. I spend vast VAST amounts of money on my pets and spoil them lovingly, but because of this Sherry person I will be taking my business to Pet Smart. Maybe management should do a thorough cleaning up of their employees. Thank you.

BIRD OWNERS BEWARE!!



We bought a green "ranch style" cage from Petco that is manufactured by this company, and within a few weeks BOTH of our birds fell ill. One died, and the other is hanging on (barely). The vet suspects lead poisoning, but cannot treat effectively without knowing for sure... even still, neither Petco nor this company will divulge any information regarding the content of the paint they use. Guess they don't care about pets, only sales. Thanks, China.



By the way, the phone # listed here is bogus... ever heard of a company with nothing to hide being so secretive & purposefully misleading?

Avoid the Grooming Department. The manager does things HER way, despite directions given by the owner to preference of cut, etc. We WILL NOT BE GOING BACK...... The only reason I did not give this a one star rating is that my dog did come out alive, but with a very crude cut. This is ridiculous for the amount of money charged and all this was done by the Manager of Grooming. There are many places in Anchorage (many on the Eastern side of town) where you can get a groom which will be what you specify, NOT WHAT THE GROOMER WANTS!!.......why settle for shoddy seconds?!?!? Also, as I do stop in this store (off the Glenn Hwy), to purchase food on ocassion, I cannot help but notice that for the past couple of years, there are constant "Groomers Needed" in the window...Not good.

They have okay services but what I like about it is that you bring your cats and dogs inside. But what I don't like is that the cats can't be on leashes, they have to be in a cage. But it's a decent store with decent pet treats and toys and prices.

Worked at a small pet store for years and against my better knowledge decided to buy a fish I planned for for over 6 months here, just because it was 200 mi closer than my hometown and i knew it had the breed I had studied so much........



Put the fish in a tank (by itself) and have been feeding him high quality food/doing proper water changes/been keeping an eye on him for two weeks and just found out that he was harboring some ich, likely in his gills so I hadn't been able to notice when picking him out. He hasn't come in contact with ANYTHING that could give him ich other than his tank at the store.



Now I have to go back and buy treatment stuff and hope that this fish that I've been obsessing over for nearly 7 months now will survive.



I would be HIGHLY cautious about buying ANY fish here. Products are fine and service was alright but be sure to dust/thoroughly clean things that go in tanks/to animals because the place was really dusty... of course you should do that anyways, but I'd boil everything that went in a tank just to be extra careful.



If you DO get fish here, be VERY observant for ich and other parasites and such. If my little guy did get ich from his tank, he had at least 10 other tankmates that would likely have it as well. I'm lucky to have caught my pet's infection before it got out of hand.... as is, wish me luck treating the little guy! Ich has a 100% mortality rate if untreated, so it is REALLY important you watch out for it. Be aware of behavioral changes, physical changes (fins usually extended being squeezed close to the body, etc) and be wary of any white spots. If you notice it, begin treating immediately! Research online can tell you what to do/help you i.d. the stuff.



Overall, avoid buying fish here if possible. Just be careful and observant if you do, and be prepared to spend an extra $20+ on treatments.

1. Sherry, stop telling people their reviews are wrong, and then blaming them. It's what happened to them, and you're a terrible representative of the store. You also take your job at freakin' PETCO way too serious. Get a life and stop constantly checking the PETCO review page just to insult people. Your cry for attention is noticed, congratulations, another black pebble for you.



2. I feel like the groomers should use quite a bit of work. They over cut nails more often than not. Also, again to Sherry, you DO NOT get to say that most of these people that take their dogs in should NOT be pet parents. Not your place to judge, dogs get dirty. THAT'S WHAT THE GROOMERS ARE FOR! Also, the GROOMERS should be well enough trained to handle skiddish, jumpy, and any other difficult type of dog their is to groom. It's THEIR job.



3. I'm not commenting on the fish other than a lot of people that I know that purchase fish from this place do have almost immediate deaths after purchasing from here.



4. The STAFF at the register are friendly for the most part, they've been nice enough to to charge me for some treats my dogs have eaten when they snoop around. VERY VERY nice of them. They've helped me when I needed it, so I won't say an ill thing on them.



5. The prices are high, I agree. Sherry, doesn't understand business, don't listen to her. I work behind the scenes shipping product from manufacturers to a store, and YES, there is an up charge, but NO, it's not that high. Gas is not factored in. The company transporting the material is paying for that, not PETCO. They're just trying to get more of a profit. Amazon, up charges it's products but as a fair price. Face it, you won't get it any cheap else where unless you go directly to the manufacturer.

6. Also, when I applied for my PETCO card, they didn't sell the info to anyone else. I've never received spam from them. Just an FYI

7. The back of your store next to the adoption area SMELLS AWFUL. I'm worried about the condition of the animals.

Just Read the responses from the c@nt Sherry. She works there and calls the people that pay her wages ignorant. Looks like you are the ignorant one Sherry.

I just tried to get my dog's nails clipped. Asked if they had time to do it today? Was put on hold for 11 minuts. Then I hung up. I will take my dog someplace else or do it myself.

If you love your pet DO NOT GO HERE! My dad took our poodle, coal, here and coal came back looking like he had gotten in a bar fight! He had cuts from the haircut and he fur was completely uneven! They charged us 80$ for the haircut and when I came back the next day they were less then helpful. I spoke to the store manager who asked me to come at a later time to speak to the salon manager. When we came back they offered to fix it and refund 11$. 11$ is not worth the gas money or wasted time coming back there twice when it should of been done right the first place. They also refused to believe that the cuts were actual cuts until I showed them pictures of the cuts bleeding. Eventually they gave us a full refund and asked us never to come back. Not like I would have any way. The petsmart in sterling offers better service!

All five stars light up! I wish there were some way of making it accurately show what I said. 0 stars! Stay away from here when you buy your fish! They bring diseases back to your tank and the store will only give money back for those you infected the tank with, not replacing those lost because of the disease they brought in.

To the person that says this is an inappropriate place to vent about anything other than grooming... you are wrong... this is a place to give PETCO reviews and ratings... this is not a PETCO Groomers reviews site... this is a PETCO site... so if PETCO sells fish, and the fish died, and the customer is not happy with the outcome... this is the place to write about it.

I had a desire to get my cat a toy. I was about in town & decided to stop into PETCO. They had a toy I thought my cat would like, on sale for 21.49 from 24.99. Sort of expensive but I was in the mood. The cashier asked if I had there store card, I said no, asked if I wanted one, I said no. The rung up price was the off sale amount, guess I hadn't read the fine print on the sign. I walked out without the item.

I'm giving this store a poor review for two reasons. First, you shouldn't have to divulge your person contact information that would be required for that store card. You know they are going to sell that information to everyone & anyone who'll give 2 cents for it. If someone chooses to do that, give them the 5 % off extra that is one the promotion for signing up. Secondly, after I walked out of the store I went to eat, got out my smartphone, went to Amazon.com, & bought the very same thing for $12.97 with free shipping. Big different, huh? Even their sale price was a rip-off. Religate these stores that are accustomed to being the only act in town for a given product & therefore able to gouge at will to the following. Make them showrooms for the online businesses that can provide you the same products at the very best competitive prices. Go to PETCO, find what you want, write down the name, walk out, & then order the same product for 40 - 50 % off at an online retailer. We do not need these gouging businesses. Want a new pet? Go to the humane society.

I never had a problem like that with petco. I had a yellow lab who was 210 pounds and they always groomed her. You run into things like that no letter what business you go to. There is always an employee or group of employees who are just in it for a paycheck and don't know what having a job really means. You can't always blame the entire company. I blame the parents of this generation for babying their kids and not teaching their lazy arses what work really is. I'm all for the discipline. Without discipline you get a world full of employees who don't give a rats arse and can run a business into the ground.

Went to buy some fish. Person in fish kept just walking around like I was invisible. After about 15 minutes I left to never return.

I made an appointment on Tuesday afternoon to take my dog in for a grooming. The lady on the phone gave me a time of 8:30 Saturday morning. I arrived at 8:20AM and sat in the parking lot for 30 minutes. There was no one there to open the grooming department or the store. I was extremely disappointed. I called back to let them know of the trouble and was made to feel like they didn't care of the trouble and they didn't want my business. I will be going to any other groomer but them! I recommend that you do the same unless you have lots of time to wait on them in the parking lot.

I took my maltese Daisy, to our Petco, Fairfield, CA and she has always come back looking great and smelling sweet. I even took a pix to give to the groomers this morning because she still had the purple bows in her ears she really loved them!

She was happy and alert on her return home and had no issues. I am not sure if the people that go in with their dogs are ready to complain at ever little thing but really some of these comments make no sense and certainly isn't the norm that I have seen on the 3 occasions I have taken her there.

I bought a spotted gecko for my son on his birthday a year ago and he is healthy and doing well. They always have what I need there and Jason and Theresa are always happy to suggest a product when my dogs have an issue like hot spots or bad breath.

Buying fish from any pet store is chancy you have to be careful switching them from one enviroment to another, its really not the pet stores fault when that happens.

All in all its worth stopping by and see for yourelf, they also have adoption days for cats most Saturdays and great selection of everything you need for your pets.

The new Northgate PETCO is AWESOME!

There staff there is amazing and they really took care of me and my many pets that I have. I can go there for basicly any dog or fish food that I need. Also, they were knowledgeable about fish, and grooming.

Their store is HUGE!! OMG, I almost got lost in there but I think the women's name was Lauren, she directed me in the right direction.

So, forget the other "BAD" experiences that others have had with other PETCO'S I think this one people should check out. :)
