Provided by YP.comI read the review about the live/dead sand & the person's fish that died. This is about the store itself & the staff. It has nothing to do with the groomers. This isn't an appropriate place to vent about problems with the store & it's management unless it concerns grooming. I know little about fish, but I'm pretty sure you don't take them to a pet groomer. We have used Petco's grooming in the past for our dogs. They were never crazy about going there. We would have to pull them inside & they would try to run away. We just figured dogs don't like getting a bath. We quit taking them there when my sister-in-law begged us not to. She said she saw them hit dogs & treat them badly. She loves animals, especially dogs. We didn't see it ourselves but we trust her and what she said.

Provided by YP.comBuying product at Petco is fine. Usually the grooming good but my dog came back from the grooming salon with a tick on the back of his neck. Not something you can miss when you cut a dogs fur. He did not go into the place with a single flea or tick on him. I called and talked to a supervisor and basically said it wasn't their fault. Needless to say I will NOT bring my dog back to Petco for any grooming needs.
I read your post and can not believe that you would stop going to a salon because your dog had a tick. I believe some people are just so self absorbed that they live in a fantasy world. Since ticks live in the grass which is covered all over the planet are you not ever going to go outside again? How can you say for sure your dog did not get the tick from the house to the car or from your own house. If you google ticks you will see that they can get in your house and on you traveling on your sock or something whan you go outside. They are everywhere. REALLY!!!

Provided by YP.comAfter reading the comments, I feel compelled to respond. I have been grooming for 12 years now. I have many clients & customer referrals. I started in a ma & pa grooming business. I see they got a great review! This owner used to beat the dogs up behind closed doors. I eventually left and I was hired by PETCO. I love dog grooming & I had 6 poodles @ one time. I love animals, even after getting bit a couple of times, dealing with pets that have behavioral issues. I recently went through a complaint from a client. She claimed I tried to remove the micro chip from her dog, when it was covered in ticks and were feeding off of the pet. It was also tangled beyond belief. I felt so bad for the dog & I treated the dog for the tick infestation and groomed it. People can see what we are doing through the window. There are cameras watching our every move. We refunded her money and we offered to take it to the vet. There was a patch of ticks on the dogs back and that was the cause of this. I had clients storm out, because their pets are so far matted, but they don't want you to remove the coat. I try to educate on pet care after they groom their pet. What is beneficial to their pet not what will harm them.
As for the above comment on shaving down a Golden. I always recommend as the groomer did, not to shave your dog. Dogs coats protect them from the elements. Keeps them cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Especially a puppy.
I welcome pet parents and their pets into my salon. I enjoy getting to know them.
If anything, I learn from your comments and experiences and opens my eyes to what I experience daily.
I agree with you. From what i see in the grooming salons is that 70% of pet parents are not responsible pet parents and should not even have a pet. Dogs come in, in such bad shape and so nasty and do not want you to shave or clip the fur and fuss at the groomer. I just wish pet parents would care enough about the pet to research that breed of dog to learn and educated them self on their own dog. What is sad is that most of those pet parents spend 3 and 4 hours a day online shopping and emailing but do not care enough to use some of that time reading up on their dogs upkeep. Sad!!

Provided by YP.comMy sister bought a hamster at PetCo and it died in 3 days...never again.
Have sister actually research how to take care of a small animal next time before she runs out and gets one. Not just walking into a pet store and asking what kind of food do i feed it and when then purchasing it. Read up on it first. I see to many people who know nothing about keeping pets and to lazy to research that animal just go out and purchase one and it dies because that person knows nothing about it and look for someone they can blame besides them self. I bet sister researches buying a car better than she did purchasing a live living creature.

Provided by YP.comI live on the west coast and I am a petco certified pet stylist. I spent 4 months practicing breed cuts and other various hair styles. There is no specific amount of time that you have to spend grooming dogs. You can l;iterally open up a business for grooming and go from there. Not having any experience. I know several people who have done this and are successful today. At least Petco has a certification process! Before petco I worked in a private salon for 2 years. EVERY grooming facility has its ups and downs. Groomers are real people too, they also are not perfect all the time. ARE YOU? I am always good with my dogs even the ones who act up. It takes longer to groom them as usual. If your dog stands on a table and doesnt squirm and lets u do a haircut then you are lucky and can get that dog done within an hour sometimes. We also have another job called, customer service. We dont just GROOM dogs. We have to check them in, bathe them, let them dry, answer phones, make appt.s help out on the floor if needed, all this while grooming dogs! These things can make it to where your dog is there longer than sometimes wanted or needed. Just put your feet into MY shoes for a day. Groom your own dog and while your doing it remember that every time it moves or squirms for you it may be doing it 10 times more for a groomer it doesnt know. We are not bad people....most of us LOVE animals, and choose to groom dogs for a living because we love them and because the money isnt half bad. Actually, alot of people take advantage of the groomers., think that because we work for a corporation that they deserver things done for free. We have kids and family members to support also. It takes alot of time and patience to groom a dog. I get baffled sometimes when people are so rude to us. I mean, dont you get more out of being nice to people. I am doing you a service. Dont I deserve respect and to not get yelled at because you(pet parents) are having a bad day? I am more than happy to do a little extra for your dog even if you can afford it, and NOT charge you for it if in fact you are nice to me.Just wanted to let people know a little about the groomers side of things. Thanks for reading.

Provided by YP.comThe employees in two that I have had to get my cat food from are just plain rude and lazy do not want to help. and that is because they go through managers and no one is setting an example or watching them. As far as quality the expiration dates on the food need to be carefully checked. Out of 10 of 12 bags all were expired and covered in dust never been moved for months at least.
The prices are way over most other places even online with shipping. They state and its posted they will match any price but beware. We were given a slip of paper with the managers signature for our next purchases that she had adjusted it. When coming back the next month was given a hard time saying that paper was just for the buy we made? They did call again which is fine but we were treated like it was a huge problem to do this for us.
Someone needs to get these stores in tune with customer relations.
We are going to order online as we need a food not available anywhere else.

Provided by YP.comIt is Very difficult to groom a puppy and some older dogs too, especially if the dogs don't have experience. I used to work at a Petco grooming Salon and know first hand. I agree it was probably a miscommunication, and all I can say.... ASK ALOT OF QUESTIONS and know what exactly your pet will be put through, ask them to explain the process... Most will be glad to!...and most of all, don't expect perfection if they (dogs) are new to the process. Ask the Groomer "How they(dog) did". I also firmly believe that once you and your pet are comfortable with a certain groomer, make every effort to continue with the same one! Just like us as people, prefer our own hair stylists! Your dog, once they find someone they work well with, will enjoy it too.

Provided by YP.comI took my 8month old playful Golden Doodle to be cleaned up to Petco on Bell Rd and Tatum in Phoenix, AZ for the second time...that will be the LAST time!
Talked to Tammy the groomer about trimming his long heavy fur as summer is coming. We asked about trimming in a mohawk as we thought it would be fun for him. She took great effort to convince us his fur was too heavy for them to cut, showing us the trimmers and attempting to explain why. She argued with us that it won't work, and by the time it came to adding trimming to the bath and general cleaning, we did not trust someone at a GROOMING PET STORE that did not seem to want to do her job.
After picking our little buddy up after his cleaning, he was very whiny and seemed timid. We got him home and he was very lethargic, almost as if he was sedated. He just layed on the floor like a scolded child. this is an 8month old puppy!!! He was whiney and barely moved for the rest of the day.
After being home with us, he was fine 24 hours later, but I will NEVER take him back to someone that seems she had a bad day and MAY have done things she should not have to my puppy. I have no proof, but will NEVER go back.

Provided by YP.comIt seems to me that PETCO is more worried about their "BOTTOMLINE" financially then making sure the groomers they release on the public have had the proper training for any length on time...Sometimes when I observe grooming through the glass I see groomers who seem like they are on the job for the first time...Are they cashiers one day and groomers the next?...Grooming is an artform which takes thorough training both in the grooming and the ways of handling the dogs...And this takes years of apprenticeship...Not just a 6 week crash course in grooming...I have seen dogs come out of PETCO with some of the worst haircuts I have ever witnessed...So what if they have a bandana, bow or polish...The haircut is what really matters...And why do dogs have to be there so long...How would any person like to be confined in a cage and wait for several hours to have a haircut? Dog's are frightened as it is to be left there with strangers...Why make them wait for so long?...I bring my dog where the wait is never long, less then an hour and being that I get a simple "DO" for my dog that should be enough time if the grromer has good tools and has the experience...And I am always greeted at the door like a friend, not a number...If you're not happy with PETCO, let them know!

Provided by YP.comPlease do not entrust the care of your pet to Petco grooming!
I had taken my Papillon named Winnie to Petco in Seekonk, MA to be groomed. Our usual groomer was not available so the appointment was booked with another Petco groomer.
My dog seemed extremely distressed at pick-up time; she was crying and squirming while being handed over the counter into my arms. When I asked the groomer “Katie” what was wrong with my little dog? She replied: “Winnie is such a Drama Queen!”
After leaving the store and arriving home I discovered that Winnie was in such pain that she was unable to move. I examined her more closely and noticed an enormous bruise covering almost the entire left side of her tiny body!
Since being groomed at Petco Winnie has had to undergo four surgeries. Her blackened skin had become necrotic and a large portion of her left side had to be removed. The veterinary surgeons believe that Winnie’s injury was the result of a thermal burn.
Winnie’s pain has only just started to subside and she will forever live with her scars. As for me; I will continue to deal with the guilt for trusting Petco with my precious little companion.

Provided by YP.comTook my Great Pyrenese to Petco. After they were done, they called to tell me he had a sore on his side, and they didn't want to brush that area as it was sensitive. That was not a problem at all, and I appreciated the sensitivity they showed my dog, however, when I got him home, it became apparent that they did not brush him at all. They washed him, shaved behind his ears, and trimmed his toenails. He was even still damp!

Provided by YP.comI have been taking my dog to the salon for a few years. Up until last year I took her to whichever groomer was there. Now the only person there I like grooming her is Katie. She does an excellent job on her cocker cut! My dog has never looked better and she seems like she likes it there. Katie treats her really well and I feel like she will always be treated well and look beautiful when she comes home!

Provided by YP.comI took my mothers Cocker Spaniel to get groomed at PetCo, and what a disaster.... We left her with them at 1 pm and came back to get her at 4 pm. She was not even bathed yet. We asked the manager what happened, and she said that one of her groomers had just walked out (which meant she quit and left all her dogs standing in cages waiting to be groomed) I ask you? Who would be so mean as to just walk out like that with all those pets waiting, and not able to even relieve themselves for so long... My mom's dog had soiled her cage and they didn't clean it up.
We took the dog back home to my mom, and she called their corporate offices and said she was going to report them to the BBB for lousy service. I just can't recommend this business for grooming a pet....Sorry, but they just need better help and a lot more compassion for their clients.

Provided by YP.comThe first time I brought my puppy there they did an okay job. The second time I brought her there I saw them handling her not to my standards. When they were brushing her it was very rough and it looked like she was completely miserable. I do not recommend them.

Provided by YP.comI have nothing really signifigant to say about the performance of the grooming shop, I always take my dog to the same groomer, Petco, and as far as I've seen, they always have a smile, they're always happy to see Monster, He always comes out well groomed and beautiful, except for a couple of times. Although on those days I also took the time to notice that My dog actually is NOT the most important dog in that shop, perhaps he is to me, but to the groomers, it's another dog to groom so they can make a living. I've had Monster in the shop for over 4 hours before, but on those days, they had ALL SORTS on the tables, it seemed forgivable if anything. And some of those dogs fight, things happen that make it take longer and make appoinments run late. And I'd hate to be one of those groomers too, having to come in VERY close contact with a dog that doesn't know them, it can easily be dangerous. Even if the dog is small, but bites, the groomers don't know what sorts of diseases he/she might have. After reading all the other comments, I think the people who like the service walk away happy and don't bother with blogs and rating, but the people who get mad do everything they can to villianize the poor groomers who just spent an hour shaving YOUR dog. I say Kudos to the Groomers for putting up with the irate customers who they can't do anything about, and also puting up with the ones who say nothing. Dog Groomers must feel so unappreciated, I'll have to start tipping mine now that I think about it.

Provided by YP.comWe have been taking our Border Collie Mix to Petco for about the last 3 years to be bathed and shaved (in the summer). We usually deal with a young lady named "Nickie", who, unfortunately, is no longer there. We were always extremely pleased with the service and, more importantly, Roxie actually enjoyed going there! They took her in right when we arrived and always called when she was ready, which, incidentally, was always when she was promised. The staff has always been extremely courteous and helpful, and the fact that Roxie isn't traumatized by the experience is always a plus. I admit that she does not need any sort or specific cut-just a fairly close buzz will do-but she has never been nicked, her fur is even and her nails are perfect! I wouldn't take her anywhere else! Thanks, Petco!
